Manaria/Mysteria Friends Episode 4: Midterm Blues

Test Day was coming up and everyone was scrambling to do their best with their studies…except for one.

Grea playing the piano.jpg

We joined our soon to be lovebirds chilling at their secret spot with Grea playing the piano and Anne reading till she finished and did a lovely dance. She praised Grea’s playing but she was like “I can do better”. Anne asked for them to come back tomorrow but Grea was focused on studying for exams and would do so till they were finished. Anne was kinda disappointed.

Anne's intelligence was on a whole other level.jpg

Anne’s intelligence was on a whole other level.

There were two reasons for this. The first reason was made clear when she tried to help Hanna’s study group solve an equation and her answer was far too advanced for the group to comprehend. The same went for others studying. As we already know from Episode 1 Anne is a prodigy. She ain’t perfect but she’s super smart. The second reason would be revealed shortly.

Grea not needing Anne’s help.

Since there was no other student she could study with she hoped to at least study with her sweetheart. Alas Grea was doing fine on her own and didn’t want to bother Anne’s studies. Most of the episode was Anne feeling bored but most of all lonely without her Dragonborn beloved beside her. Naturally Grea also wanted to be with Anne but held herself back. She did notice her head to their secret spot.

There is one other thing of note in the episode. The secret spot I mentioned? It’s also where they first met…and fell in love (Quietly of course).

Anne being pouty.jpg

Anne being pouty.

Once exams were over Grea IMMEDIATELY searched for Anne. She had a hunch where she’d be. She was right. Anne was of course pouty Grea left her alone for so long.

The two made up and played piano together.

I haven’t gone into much detail about the Post-ED segments up till now but this time it’s super important.

I’m pretty sure all this happened on the night before Test Day. Anne looked at her study material and felt it was dated so she spent the rest of the evening thinking about Grea…Something she does every single day.

Grea was being her usual cute and sexy self staring at the moonlight before continuing her studies.

And now for the main reason why I’m talking about this week’s Post-ED.

Hanna and her secretary again.jpg

Poppy.

So here we have Hanna and her secretary (Poppy) again. Count how many beds were in their room…You know where I’m going with this.

I say this a lot but it bears repeating: I LOVE MANARIA/MYSTERIA FRIENDS SO FREAKIN’ MUCH!

ENDRO~! may be my best overall show of Winter 2019 so far but Manaria/Mysteria Friends is the most emotionally fulfilling and that’s more important to me.

This show is nicely heartwarming and I have to say I´m ok with those 14 minutes, it feels like monster magic anime without the action part in it and I´m totally happy with it. 🙂

The romance continues… the fact that the main plot of the show for the past two episodes has been more-than-friends interactions between the two leads is promising indeed. And the way Anne can’t seem to get Grea off her mind is just precious beyond belief.

Ohohohohoho, I knew it. I knew there’s something between Hanna and her assistant and by God’s mercy, I was able to live through that post ED scene. Seeing Grea and Anne bonding is pure bliss but damn, I hope we’ll see a kiss near the end of the show.

The previous episode left me with my heart pulsing out of control but this one (especially the scene with Hanna and her assistant), this one almost gave me a heart attack.

Also, Maid Dragon Season 2 is confirmed, guess there’s no keeping down the gay dragon girls.

Well being a prodigy is both a blessing and a curse. Almost everyone can’t understand her so she can’t do any study sessions and help her fellow students however it’s such a blessing because she can think of Grea all day and night long without lessons being in the way.

It was a nice and very romantic first meeting. I want to know more about what happened next after they fell in love at first sight.

    I really love this show.

Another great episode. Anne was sad and it made me feel sad too. Especially when she went to their secret place alone and suddenly raining. I hope the piano is okay. And yeah Grea’s just wanted to ace her exam, can’t blame her. Anne didn’t mad at Grea, she was just lonely. Adorable by the way. Hanna and Poppy are a couple. When a girl just walked into someone’s room without knocking and in her pajama, they must be sleep together. Also I think they should change the title to Manaria Lovers.

    Pretty good episode.
It was cool that music we hear in the ED is the same that Grea was playing.
We need to know more about Lou’s friend. They look interesting.
There is definitively something going on between Hanna and Poppy.

  8. I thought the exact same thing during that post-ED bit. The way they looked at each other, bring a cup of hot drink that late in the evening directly to someone’s room…either you also sleep in that room, or you’re there for another kind of intimate reason.

Also, poor pouty, lonely, prodigy Anne. Someones being too smart (smarter than everyone else around you) is a little bit of a curse. Though it still amuses me that she only really loses to the Read or Die cast in the amount of books she has in her room, even in her bed…

Ah, the time-honoured tradition of two lesbians playing a piano duet together. Grea plays really nicely, I think. Also, I laughed out loud when Anne just flopped on the ground at the end of her graceful dance…and the place where they first met, too? Truly, a special secret place.

    Lou’s friends seem cool.

Something interesting I learned about the show is that it’s actually based on a single event from the mobile game the larger world is, or so I heard from someone I know…in other words, likely only the setting is, so they probably have a lot of freedom in what kind of story they want to tell…and at least so far, they’re using that freedom well indeed…

I realized this episode that this show is amazingly well directed and such, and has pretty amazing background art for a shorter anime…

No other conclusion than they’re dating. Oh yes indeed.

As others said it’s also a blessing as she could focus solely on Grea.

      That was cute.

Captain Lou must be a great leader for them to support her.

Yes. It’s from an event in the mobile game before it shot down. They’re certainly going in a favorable direction with the story, yes.

High quality presentation and pretty good pacing for the story being told.

Coming hot off the heals of that glorious ep 3, this ep was pretty chill and low key. Anne and Grea are so in love with each other, seeing how lonely Anne got when Grea was busy really drove that point home. And how Grea instantly went to go look for her when the exams were over. Oh I wish these girls the very best.

But yeah that moment in the after credit scene with Hanna and Poppy was very good indeed. Having some quality time together, that was nice. I hope we get to see more of them in future eps. And yes, there was only one bed in the room. We all know where this is going.

And as a side point, Grea is really good at playing the piano. And that nice touch of her playing the ED too, that was cool. Really liked when they both sat down and played a duet together too, so sweet. I love these girls so much. Easily one of the best couples this season.
