Deep inside my heart I have a feeling covering this anime weekly will be a mistake. Not because the show will suck. I have 100% confidence it’ll be awesome if this premiere is any indication. Fortunately I came prepared so this time I’ll be ready in case things go sour again.
We kicked things off at the final boss chamber as our four heroines faced off against The Demon Lord. The enemy was stronger than they anticipated, forcing our adorable quartet to use a risky final attack to seal away the demon. It was successful. The world was saved…
Nope. We’re still going. Could it all have been a dream by Yusha? Anyway Seira went around waking everyone up.
On their way to school Yusha noticed Seira’s ears were a deep red. Wonder what happened?
Ah. That explains it.
When Yusha asked Mei if Seira went to wake her up too there was no need.
That’s because Mei spent all night studying Cartado and its many secrets.
Having finally reached Adventurer School the class was surprised by their teacher announcing his retirement. Fortunately his replacement was nearby.
So the cute new teacher introduced herself but reacted oddly when she saw Yusha and her gang. She began her classes by explaining to viewers the story being set on Naral Island. It was both magical and dangerous. The Royal Family of Lapanesta didn’t have enough power to handle all problems on the island so a school to train whoever was capable to protect the island into Adventurers. She had everyone form groups and take a surprise trial.
Most of the groups easily passed the trial. Then it was our lovable quartet’s turn.
- Yusha is Classless.
- Fai’s a Warrior.
- Mei’s a Mage. Yes…just a mage.
- Seira’s a Priest.
Mao had an inner monologue about herself. She’s the Demon Lord from the beginning, meaning the battle from the prologue did happen…Except the final attack didn’t seal the demon away but transported her back in time and stripped her of all her power. Mao’s plan was to prevent Yusha and the gang from becoming the legendary quartet who stopped her.
See, Mao’s trial was for all groups to find a key item inside a dungeon and make it back out. The other groups succeeded but when it was our heroines’ turn she intentionally sabotaged the trial. All seemed lost but Yusha’s “Hero Intuition” kicked in and they ended up in a sacred chamber.
There they found the Hero Sword from the prologue. Yusha, being a “baka genki” pulled it out. Some cool stuff happened and after a case of collateral damage the four passed the trial, much to Mao’s dismay.
I didn’t explain it well but the show is a Fantasy JRPG Comedy with a mix of fun-fun silly willy cuteness, some meta humor and a few cool battles here and there. Basically if Yuru Yuri were turned into a JRPG. Great stuff and my current #1 show of the Winter season.
Now to go find those headache pills. Doesn’t help that I had a sore throat this week.
