On paper the Winter 2019 season doesn’t look as hot as Fall 2018 was. On my end that’s because I don’t know what to expect from most of my picks. Even so I’m raring to go once it starts. As always the list isn’t final and is subject to change.
Picks are based on these two charts:
Fantasy themed Girls Club show with characters designed by Namori. That’s all I need to dub this my #1 hype show of the season. Endroooooooooo!
BanG Dream! 2
First of two new seasons. While I’m pumped to see Poppin’ Party again, especially Arisa, I’m more excited for the mainstream debut of the other bands. We already got glimpses of them in the bonus OVA and chibi shorts but this will be their time on the grand stage.
Kemono Friends 2
I know some fans are worried the new staff involved with season 2 will mess up the awesomeness established last season, mainly because the Director left, but I’m willing to give them a chance.
Similar to Kemono Friends 2 several Nation members are worried this season won’t be as favorable due to how the first season concluded, or that it would harshly affect a certain arc in the manga they’re eagerly hoping would be done justice. Normally I’d add this one to the Curiosities section but like KF 2 I’ll give the writers a chance to do the right thing.
Mahou Shoujo Tokushusen Asuka/Magical Girl Spec Ops Asuka
The “Moepocalypse” show of the season. Be sure to mentally prepare yourselves this time, lest some of you want to be emotionally scarred/enraged like what happened with Happy Sugar Life. Honestly I’d recommend these people take a breather from Moepocalypse shows after that but…like in real life…when do people ever listen to me?
The long awaited Shingeki no Bahamut spinoff centered around two lovely ladies. Hopefully like other spinoffs starring female leads it’ll be an enjoyable viewing experience for most of us in the Nation.
Kouya no Kotobuki Hikoutai
Japanese CG has never bothered me. It didn’t bother me watching Kemono Friends nor will it bother me here. Looks like an interesting show about female pilots. There’s another anime about cute and sexy girls flying air crafts but it reeks of het harem so I’ll stick with this one. Hopefully my blind faith won’t fail me.
Other stuff I’ll definitely check out are:
- Maerchen Maedchen Episodes 11 and 12. The Blu-Rays show the animation has greatly improved so that’s a good sign. Most fans have understandably turned their backs on the show because of the backstage disaster involving mistreatment of staff among other things but I still believe in it and hope it has a satisfactory conclusion.
- Ikkitousen: Western Wolves. It’s Ikkitousen. I love this series. More OVAs is a good thing.
- Star Twinkle PreCure: 16th season of the Pretty Cure franchise.
Both these anime are based on mobile games. Fingers crossed they end up being easier to enjoy than the sheer nuisance that was Space Fishing. Give me something like Battle Girls High School or Schoolgirl Strikers and I’ll be content. Sure they won’t be amazing shows if that’s the case but at least they’d be watchable unlike Space Fishing.
Bermuda Triangle: Colorful Pastrale
What’s the most logical step after an anime about zombie idols? Why an anime about mermaid idols of course! It’s a spinoff of the Cardfight Vanguard series. The girls look cute so that’s a step in the right direction.
Ame Iro no Cocoa: Side G
If previous seasons are any indication then the episodes will be very short. I’m mainly curious about the two hotties on the right.
Speaking of Shorts Mini Toji looks neat. It’ll hopefully be as fun as other chibi shorts anime.
I mentioned the former Director of the Kemono Friends anime leaving the project. Well this is his new project. I’m intrigued.
Update: Kemurikusa turned out to be a het anime.
I will be watching this anime but I have no plans on covering it weekly nor discussing it anywhere online, especially not via Private Messages. I just want to watch this one quietly and review it when it’s done.
Other shows I’m curious about: Flying Babies. A Girls Club about hula girls.
And there you have it.
