A most intriguing episode this one was.
We kicked off with a flashback of Kaoruko and Futaba. Kaoruko was the heir of a wealthy family and her goal was to become the greatest dancer in Japan. However, she wanted to do it at her own pace, meaning she hated following her instructors’ strict regimen. Luckily for her she had Futaba, her #1 fan who had already taken the role of “love servant”. Kaoruko made a promise to Futaba that she would become the biggest dancing sensation in Japan and blow her mind away. Futaba happily continued serving her for that reason no matter how annoying her beloved mistress’ aloofness was. As we’ve seen on the show so far that goal of Kaoruko’s hasn’t been going well. We’ll talk about the brief flash forward later.
It looks like Mahiru put her quest for love on hold and figured that since she most likely couldn’t win BaKaren’s love she could show her what she missed out on by proving her superiority over Hikari, which she quickly did.
As the show progressed we saw signs of what Futaba seemingly wanting to step out of her mistress’ shadow and aim for the Top Star as well. We also saw her forming an alliance with Claudine who was in a similar boat. Maya, ever vigilant of her precious plaything’s progress noticed her and Futaba improving during tap dancing classes. Kaoruko also noticed but didn’t make much of a fuss at first.
However, things started going downhill for her after the writing team Banana was a part of announced their multi-round plan on picking the cast for the Starlight play. Kaoruko thought she’d be a shoe in with her talent and especially her social status. Unfortunately the head writer didn’t think she’s worthy of joining the cast at all due to her lacking passion. Futaba tried calming her down by reminding her that Banana said there would be more than one opportunity to make the cast but her ego took a massive blow, especially when Futaba WAS chosen. She silently let her mistress whine.
Things got worse the next day when Futaba wasn’t part of the duo’s usual routine. Later that night she discovered Futaba had been training in secret with Claudine. I’m sure most viewers figured out Futaba’s motivation but Kaoruko was like “How dare you dump me for Claudine you traitor!”. Appalled by her arrogance Futaba moved into Claudine’s room.
To make matters worse for the spoiled one not only was she miserable without her love servant around to care for her but we also found out she’d lost every single FCT match she’s in, meaning Mahiru also beat her that one time.
Not wanting to admit her weakness she decided the best course of action was to leave the academy and hone her craft elsewhere though it was obvious what her true intention was. Both Futaba and Kaoruko were given words of wisdom by KuroMaya. Claudine told Futaba to not see herself as a mere servant but continue improving as she had a lot of potential. Meanwhile Maya’s sexy words of wisdom went something like this: “I know how you feel. I’ve been there, consumed by my ego. However, now you must think about your servant whose loyalty is based on love AND respect. As her mistress it is your duty to show her that her devotion is warranted. Show her you deserve her love and care.” Maya had her precious plaything after all so of course she’d empathize with Kaoruko.
At the station Kaoruko thought hard about Maya’s sexy words and hoped with all her might for Futaba to come stop her. Luckily for her Futaba deep down still believed in Kaoruko but both were too proud to admit their true feelings leading to more arguing. When a familiar message tone rung it was clear that there’s only one way to settle things.
This was a historic day in the history of the FTC. For you see…the impossible happened.
BaKaren WASN’T IN THE MAIN EVENT!
Look I’ve enjoyed all the televised FCT matches so far but like Roman Reigns being in the main event of 4 Wrestlemanias in a row you start getting irked. On the bright side, unlike most of Roman’s Mania matches BaKaren’s were all great so I’ll give the writers that.
Back to Futaba vs Kaoruko. It wasn’t a wild and crazy match. Still very flashy as fans would expect. Like every other match since episode 2 it served the purpose of the girls letting out their true feelings. In Futaba’s case it was revealing the reason she wanted to be a Top Star instead of living in Kaoruko’s shadow. It was so she could be strong enough to co-star alongside Kaoruko as the leading ladies of Starlight, sharing the spotlight with her beloved mistress.
Kaoruko tried forfeiting the match but Futaba rushed in to stop her. Kaoruko’s trick worked. She was elated her love servant cared so deeply for her. For that she couldn’t throw everything away, showing off her own resolve.
Futaba was distracted by Kaoruko’s dazzling moves as she saw in her the mistress she admired and girl she fell in love with. Kaoruko’s losing streak had come to an end.
Like Mahiru last time Kaoruko seems to have become more focused while still retaining part of her spoiled heiress charm. Great stuff as always.
Be sure to buy a bunch of a certain fruit for the next episode. You’re gonna need it after that little post-ED scene.
