Hugtto! PreCure Episode 23: The Dark Corporation Get Serious

We’re at that point of a Pretty Cure show where the villains start stepping up their game. Let us find out what they had in store for our heroines this time.

Emiru and Ruru in the OP.jpg

EmiRuru are in the OP now. Unsurprisingly their parts are the best.

Out of control Popcorn machine

Ruru calmly eating popcorn from an out of control machine was hilarious.

We started the episode with our heroines discussing the Mirai Crystals and how each one powers up Hugtan. Everyone but Harry seemed excited about her vintage cuteness. The reason is most likely because he’s wondering why Hugtan hadn’t returned to her adult form yet. I think most fans remember Harry hinting that Hugtan wasn’t always a baby in an earlier episode.

Hana feeling down.jpg

Hana feeling down.

We then head to school as our heroines’ classmates talk about the Power Rangers. They brought up Cure Yell and how cool she was facing enemies bigger than her with no fear. This brought up a painful memory from Hana’s past. More on that later.

Hana and the Mystery Man again.jpg

Hana and the Mystery Man again.

After school Hana asked everyone if they could hang out with her that day since it was Summer vacation. Homare and Saaya had their respective training regimen while Ruru was heading to Emiru’s and Emiru excitedly said “My parents really want to meet my girlfriend.”. Hana was bummed that unlike her friends she still didn’t have an idea what she wanted to become. She ran into the Mystery Man again and had a discussion about the future. He shared his dream of a future without pain or suffering where people would always smile and then left when the rain stopped.

Chief Daigan.jpg

Chief Daigan was now in charge of the MOTW…

After losing three main head employees Chief Daigan was appointed the new MOTW distributor. He claimed the battle would be over in five minutes…

Dr Trauma.jpg

Dr Trauma.

…he only lasted a few seconds as he was killed off by a brand new (or returning in their case) Dark Corporation employee, Dr Trauma. Cure Ange healed his heart before he dying miserably, most likely being reborn somewhere like Claraleet and Pupple.

Skeleton Oshimaidaa.jpg

Wild Oshimaidaa.jpg

Wild Oshimaidaa.

Dr Trauma showed his machine that turned Oshimaidaa into the stronger Wild Oshimaidaa. Another Pretty Cure tradition is that whenever the villains become more serious the MOTWs get power ups and look more menacing. The Rangers’ attacks had no effect on the WMOTW.

President Goerge Kurai.jpg

President George Kurai.

The surprises didn’t end there. Mystery Man showed up and shocked Cure Yell when Harry recognized him as the President of the Dark Corporation, George Kurai. Kurai used his book to drain the Rangers of their powers and elaborated on his “dream”. He still wanted to end the world’s suffering in his own twisted way…by freezing time forever. This is most likely what happened to Hugtan and Harry’s world in the future.

Hugtan in danger.jpg

Hugtan in danger.

Speaking of, the only one unaffected by the time freeze was Hugtan. President Kurai had wicked intentions for our lovable infant. She called out to the Rangers for help but to no avail. When she called out to Hana as “Mama” however…

Hana flashback.jpg

Hana flashback.

Remember Hana’s reaction when the boys were praising Cure Yell for bravely taking on giants? She remembered a time when she tried to protect a girl who was being bullied. My best guess is her classmates distanced themselves from her because they didn’t want her to butt in or help. I could be wrong. I’m just remembering when I tried helping someone once during my grade school years and got beat up for it.

Cure Yell about to attack President Kurai.jpg

Cure Yell about to kill President Kurai.

After remembering her mom’s encouragement and support Hana broke free of President Kurai’s time freeze and reclaimed everyone’s powers. Then she was like “HOW DARE YOU MAKE HUGTAN CRY! I WILL KILL YOU MORTHEFUCKER!” Cure Yell never runs out of badass moments, does she? Though she missed she saved Hugtan. President Kurai was aroused by her righteous fury. He left Dr Trauma to handle the rest.

Pretty Cure Kaioken.jpg

Pretty Cure Kaioken.

Unfortunately for him and the WMOTW our main trio got a dose of “Kaioken” and whooped its ass. Cure Amour and Ma Cherie then finished it off and sent Rory to the hospital again.

Bishin's shadow.jpg

Mysterious destroyer Bishin.

We end the episode with Harry wondering why the White Mirai Crystal had yet to awaken while at the same time an ominous foe with great power named Bishin was freed. When this happened, unbeknownst to Harry the White Mirai Crystal emanated a faint glow.

I still think the employee with the fake president projector is scheming behind President Kurai’s back. We’ll see what happens now that the employees who were unaware of President Kurai’s true identity are gone.

Next time the refreshed Dark Corporation plan an attack on the Rangers during a Summer beach festival thing.

I will correct myself a little from the last time, those guitars/guns are actually cool and I like that a lot. 🙂

This just keeps on getting better and better!!

Was great to see what happened to Hana in her past and explain quite a few things (though I imagine we’ll learn more as this goes on)

I feel like, and HAVE felt like since quite a ways back, they’re shipping Homare and Harry. She’s always been the only one who really seems to see him as a “man”.

Love that Emiru and Ruru are remaining strong as always! Might actually get it to stay around after all these iterations backing out!

Should be interesting to see where things go from here! I imagine this time, unlike the hyping KKP got, we are actually really going to start looking into the darkness in the hearts of the MCs.

      That it does.

Yup. Very interested to learn more.

I also noticed this. Before the side-couple and EmiRuru I was iffy about it but now I’m like “You wanna ship them. Knock yourselves out”.

Depends on how deep you want the show to go for you to label it a successful look into the dark side of humanity on a kids show.

I also wasn’t very pleased about the whole Homare and Harry thing but there has been so much gay in this season that now I’m like yeah whatever

I don’t care either way. Just don’t Ruin EmiRuu and I’m good. Everyone else can go full on het. Though I think Saaya needs to stay from that as well. So those are my only two conditions really. The more yuri the better though!

Homare X Harry is whatever but I don’t want more than that because…do you want them to waste valuable screen time on more het ships?

I’d rather they go full on SaayaHana yeah. Homare needs something since they’re not going OT3

Give the gay cupid a reward. Saaya is the best one for her. Hana not getting some sugar would be sad. If they do that than yeah the writers can go all Overwatch fanfic with Homare if they want to.

It is weird to say the the best part of this episode for me, is that now Ruru and Emiru are in the OP?

In the end I thought the episode was okay. But I think is because I fell in love with EmiRuru so much, that it kind of shadows everything else.

So based on this comment you’re going to continue solely based on EmiRuru from now on. Not the best way to approach the rest of the show but good luck.

Truth be told I think both of them can carry a season alone, but I actually really like this Precure season for everythign else.

I was just way too hyped waiting for the new OP, ever since Ruru and Emiru became Precures.

I have this odd love when a show changes its opening.

        Valid arguments admittedly.

  4. EmiRuru in the OP and in the new ED! I have been waiting for this. Though I might’ve preferred the first ED myself a little bit, but this one is also good, and made all the better with the two of them.

Go Hana! There’s no time-stopping gonna stop ya from protecting Hugtan! And this is a good thing indeed. Her flashback was also pretty interesting with what it showed. Go her for getting past that and being the person she is now.

Daigan really didn’t last long, huh…and we’re heading into serious villains mode, it seems. Bishin has my attention for now though, at least. I’m curious about her.

I guess now we won’t have any more of Kurai randomly showing up around Hana after this…at least not in the same way as before.

What an episode! Super packed with all kinds of stuff.
The addition of Lulu an Emiru to the OP is very welcome.
I like all the bits and pieces about Hana’s past, Harry’s true identity (that basically confirmed that he was part of the bad guys organisation) and the new enemies (that girl in the cage!!!)
The way the new bad guy just “died” was pretty brutal, also doctor trauma what a name.
That guy being the president of the evil corporation wasn’t a surprise but he’s a lot more powerful than I expected. Like a lot of villains he thinks he’s doing good but his logic is completely broken.
I thought that the president was actually going to steal Hugtan but thankfully Hana saved the day (when Hugtan said Mama I almost cried)
    Beach/Poll episode hype

      Quite.

Very intrigued by what Harry’s story is and why he left the Dark Corporation.

Bishin and Dr Trauma are already very interesting new additions to the rogues gallery.

President Kurai so far is a neat big bad.

The scene of Hugtan about to be captured followed by Cure Yell’s badassery was very intense.
