Uma Musume -Pretty Derby- Episode 6: Horse Festival Thing

This time we joined our lovable gay horsies preparing for a festival and it was Silence Suzuka’s turn to get the spotlight during televised races.

Mejiro McQueen joins Team Spica.jpg

McQueen went through the same ritual Special did…only she had one “greeter” instead of three.

The first highlight was Mejiro McQueen officially joining Team Spica.

Gold Ship's gift.jpg

Gift for her sweetie.

Best Girl being Best Girl had a special welcoming gift for her and McQueen was quite thankful, yes.

Horse girls in swimsuits.jpg

Still no bikinis…

Yes indeed.

As this tweet showed our four couples split up and enjoyed the Horse Festival at their leisure. Tokai Teio took a detour to meet up with her beloved kaichou.

Princely Horse Girls.jpg

If I recall the princely horse left is dating a princess horse. Not sure.

Princely Kaichou.jpg

There she is. So lucky to have a fangirl fawning over her every waking minute. Also the ladies of all ages going crazy over the princely horse girls may not be considered yuri but for the sake of argument let’s say most of them were single lesbians. Silly but around here I make the rules.

Donut eating contest winner and runner up.jpg

I like how this show freely embraces girls getting really full after eating instead of the usual “black hole stomach” character. Don’t get me wrong. I like “bottomless pits” but it’s nice to see a show showing how cute pot belly girls are.

Princely Tokai Teio.jpg

Sorry Teio. You’re more adorable than princely.

Oh and Best Horse is so infatuated with McQueen their minds are synchronized.

Technically Hishi Amazon shows up randomly like Gold Ship but has less screen time so it’s not like she only appeared in episodes 1+2. She’s the flag girl in the short distance race. The crime is that this scene in episode 6 was the most screen time she’s had in the anime so far. It’s a shame because she’s the sexiest Horse Girl of them all. If only she were one of Team Rigil’s best horsies. And yes I’m sure some are shipping Amazon with Narita Brian.

Special Week and Silence Suzuka enjoying the fireworks.jpg

Lovebirds enjoying the fireworks.

So the big moment of the episode was Silence Suzuka revealing her plans to go race abroad, shocking Special Week who still wants to become strong enough to race together with her. When they were alone and Suzuka enjoyed the fact Special only really opened up to her she talked about her pony years having fun running but when she joined Team Rigil it felt like she was only racing to win. She left Rigil for Spica in hopes that she wouldn’t lose her love of running. That fear started dissipating when Special came into her life.

Grass Wonder Racing.jpg

Grass Wonder racing.

The other big story was the Grass Wonder being medically cleared to compete once more. She was determined to make a comeback as one of the top racers in Team Rigil. Unfortunately two of her opponents were Silence Suzuka and El Condor Pasa. Speaking of Pasa…

El Condor Pasa defeated.jpg

The streak…is over.

Despite giving Special Week the race of her life last time she was no match for Suzuka, thus ending her undefeated streak. She took it well. Suzuka meanwhile thanked her friends and her sweetheart for cheering her on to a more splendid flawless victory.

Good episode. Let’s hope the Suzuka’s leaving subplot is short lived. Then again…if the writers really want to write off Suzuka for a while the ONLY WAY it would make some sense would be if it ended with Special and Suzuka having a race for the ages. Most of us predict that’s where the story is heading.

Regarding the eating contest and bottomless pits… I think you missed the background event shortly after. When Team Spica was sitting at the tables eating their food, Oguri Cap was in the background eating an enormous mound of food in seconds, despite having just gobbled all those donuts. She really does have no limit.

Aw, it took 3 horses to kidnap Spe-chan but McQueen only required Gold Ship to take care of business, I think Gold Ship was like “She’s MY boo so I will take all the responsibility”. It’s adorable just to see McQueen putting up with all of Gold Ship’s antic, may they last long and be canon. 🙂

Even Spe-chan and Suzuka have alot of moments in this ep especially that firework scene (I kindaaaaaa expected a kiss there but whatever). Let’s hope that even when Suzuka goes abroad, a certain pony will tag along her journey for all them morale boost and somethin else……………. 🙂

Amazon is definitely a tsundere which is another way of saying “Perfection”.

    And princely horses…….and Taiko. 🙂

Cuteness overload. The makers of this anime are masters at overdelivering… did all of that happen in just twenty minutes? Shame we didn’t get more beach time though. Aren’t we all hoping for a separate swimsuit episode 🙂

Aww, Suzuka is so happy with Special at her side.

I love all the Gold Ship+McQueen brawling and teasing. McQueen loves to get slammed around by her crush. Even better if she took her and carried her…

McQueen tries to be composed and aloof, but her expressions always show her emotions anyway. She seems less like an ojousama and more like a shy kid. I’m sure that Gold Ship at least tried to pull her swimsuit down while frolicking in the sea. And probably got a starfish in her eye.

Agreed, Amazon is pure sexiness. What a delicious complexion. And That fortuneteller’s sidekick Meisho Doto is adorable. Scarlet is a sex bomb when she puffs out her chest in indignation.

Teio needs to get some intimate time with her beloved president.

I don’t mind the trainer at all. He’s solid, he cares for his trainees, and he doesn’t give a damn what others think. That the female trainer feels some attraction to him just serves to emphasize the lesbianness of the horse girls—for them he’s not a potential sexual interest at all. I guess horse girls breed with horse girls, how else would they exist like that apart from the ordinary folk…

It just gives Spe-chan more fuel to become ever better. Would be neat if the anime ended with her going abroad, and they made a movie about the great race that her and Suzuka participated in. Of course most of the race being antics between the horse girls. I think that’d be a good way to finish it off.
A second season could come after said movie.

A Good ep indeed. The ships got some love this ep. Good.

Best Girl being Best Girl as usual. Once again showing she has eyes of steel. I mean a kabob stick in the eye and she still has 2 eyes?

    We need more Amazon love.

Also ive noticed that Gold Ship has a solved rubix cube at the end of every race. Cool.

  6. Truly, another Golden episode indeed. Most has been said already really, but indeed, it was great.

    • And even though Silence’s going abroad might be a potentially sad direction, at least she wasn’t silent about it too long and it got revealed in episode 6 rather than episode 10 or 11 in a cliffhanger, so there’s time for that decision to either change or for Special to make plans to deal with it, or go with Silence.

Another good race. It seems that none of the horse girls can catch up to Suzuka. Still, it’s nice to learn more about her dreams. It will most likely strive Special Week to do better.

As always, the Gold Ship and McQueen ship is strong in the episode. Also, it’s hilarious how Gold Ship punishes Teio for betraying Team Spica for a bit.

Special’s wording in her letter to her mom was great.

I’m pretty sure Gold Ship had help with her greeting. There’s no way she bagged McQueen all by herself. Any solo attempt would result an eye injury (at the beach).

Want some donuts? Enter an eating competition!

The Gold Ship ship is growing strong! Maybe I should call it the McQueenShip ship?

And just to make sure, the background women drooling over the princely horse girls were assumed to be lesbians that weren’t single, right? There wouldn’t be any jealous audience members, since said audience members were also drooling over the princely horse girls.

No offense for El Condor Pasa but I think that’s how fast she can go. She went on undefeated streak from the start because she already that fast. But Special, she can go faster. Just like Suzuka said last week’s episode, that Special is getting faster. Maybe she’ll win everything instead of Suzuka. I don’t know what will happen next but I think the story can go anywhere, not just Suzuka’s leaving plot.

gold ship’s quite the entrepreneur… I guess you kinda have to be, if you’re constantly spending money on eye doctors 😀
