Mitsuboshi Start Episode 7: Inglorious Gloriousness

Maybe I should give Mauron or Zack the duty of writing episodics for Mitsuboshi Colors because as fun as it is to watch I don’t have much to say about it. Eh. A lot of people like it so they drop by with plenty to add so we’ll keep going. Anyway that’s not what I’m most excited to discuss this week.

Yui's revenge.jpg

Almost had it Yui. Almost…

The first sketch began with Yui and Kotoha talking about a prank Sat-chan pulled. Yui wanted to go to the same school as them…to which Kotoha remarked her not having friends. Then something magical happened…While Kotoha is my favorite character she got what she deserved from Yui. See, you all thought the shocking reveal last time was a low blow to her ego…this time Yui intentionally DESTROYED HER! I was like “Finally…FINALLY Yui stood up for herself and got one over her friends who consistently made her cry.”

Yui begging for forgiveness.jpg

And then she completely wasted it by feeling bad about it and begging Kotoha to forgive her. I could write an entire paragraph on why this upset me…but it’s not worth it…at all.

Plan failed.jpg

Anyway the first sketch’s case was for Colors to pick up trash around town because of Sat-chan’s prank.Saitou was close to getting tortured but was saved by common sense. I did question the humanity of Sat-chan’s teacher though. Lastly the solution to solving the case was quite clever in its own way.

The second case had Yui treating the girls to chocolate but suddenly they smelled something stinky and thought it was a corpse. Turns out the stench came from ginkgo nuts.

Ginkgo nuts.jpg

Ginkgo nut.

Interested in them being edible and other purposes they collected several…

Stink bombs.jpg

Stink bombs or stink pellets. Either one works.

…to torture Saito.

Colors Halloween.jpg

Colors Halloween Adventure.

I won’t go into much detail on Colors’ Halloween Adventure because it’s easily one of the best sketches in the show and kinda made up for Yui’s failure to get over earlier.

Okay that’s done. Time for what I imagine most of you are here for.

Eiko's birthday gifts.jpg

Eiko’s birthday gifts.

It was Eiko’s birthday and somehow everyone in class got her hairpins. Well…almost everyone. More on that in a bit.

Tama hugging Hana.jpg

Tomato happy Hana complimented her.

Tomato jokingly prayed over Eiko because she looked divine with those hairpins (That or Pinko is a heavenly brand for women). Hana prayed for Eiko having a happy year and she called her a good girl. Tomato said that meant she herself was a bad girl but Hana said otherwise, prompting this loving hug.

Hana enthralled.jpg

Don’t let this face fool you. Hana enjoyed Tomato’s hug.

And then…the magic began…unless you’re on adamantly Team Kamuri which meant the horror began.

Sensei giving Eiko her present.jpg

Oh yes indeed. It’s rematch time BABEH!

Eiko appreciating Sensei's present.jpg

Game on.

So when this pairing was first hinted at I told everyone interested that Sensei was Eiko’s greatest challenge. She could conquer any girl in her class with no effort…except her. This greatly pleased our prodigy hunter who was determined to conquer this seemingly indomitable well seasoned prey. Before continuing the hunt though…

Kamuri's gift.jpg

Kamuri's gift 2.jpg

Kamuri may be shy but she is VERY clever.

Very nice. Kamuri knows what she’s doing. She times her attacks well and isn’t worried about the competition. Best of luck to her.

Hana delivering printouts.jpg

It saddens me that some dropped the show.

Hana’s worries may seem mundane to some but I really am looking forward to the day she gets the courage to tell her friends and future girlfriend the truth.

Eiko's personal hairpin.jpg

Remember this hairpin for later.

Now back to the hunt.

An interesting situation.jpg

Oh my…

Only Mai-chan knows where my mind went when I first saw this scene. Yeeeeessssss.

Enami's colleague.jpg

Enami-Sensei’s colleague.

I hope we get to see more of her colleague. So anyway how did the two end up in that predicament above? Enami drank too much and her colleague was taking her home when out of nowhere Eiko showed up, saw the situation and took advantage of the colleague needing to go somewhere. Thus she took Enami to her apartment.

Eiko X Drunk Enami.jpg

Eiko and a drunk Enami.

Let’s be real for a bit. In the real world this would be a very bad predicament. Teachers and social workers are taught early on to never let their students/clients find them out drunk or partying late at night…

HOWEVER, this is #Yuritopia. When it comes to love between women anything goes so long as it does not go against yuri law. This predicament did not go against yuri law. So anyway Eiko took the opportunity to find out what Enami really thought about her (The “Drunks are open books” thing.). While it didn’t go over well she was content with having Enami under her control. She was confident in her conquest.

Enami after taking a shower.jpg

Have I ever mentioned how much I love older women?

Eiko offered to make a sober Enami coffee. She was confident in her victory until…

Enami smelling Eiko's hair.jpg

Critical hit.

Eiko was still no match for Enami’s adult charms.

Later that day at school Eiko tried again but was cut short by a very interesting sight…

Enami's new necklace.jpg

Eiko finding comfort in Hana.jpg

Eiko finding comfort in Hana.

Hana noticed Eiko’s reaction to the necklace Enami was wearing so Eiko took her to her secret spot and revealed her secret. Eiko liked making accessories. Her mom ran a variety store and often put her accessories for sale. That necklace Enami wore was the very first Eiko brand accessory ever sold. Eiko was so happy she wept tears of joy. Also the hairpin was the first Eiko brand accessory. As for Hana, Eiko confiding this secret with her gave her hope that when the time came it wouldn’t be difficult to tell hers.

Like I said. Team Kamuri vs Team Sensei. It is on!

Being very close in personality to yui when I was younger….I fully understand what happened. I don’t have any issue with what she did. No matter how mean someone is to you, being mean back does nothing to make things better. Either way, she definitely left an impression on Kotoha that she was not the stepping stool that Kotoha thought she was. And further solidified why she’s the leader, despite how much it seems like that can’t be at times.

I laughed so much throughout the episode XD And that Halloween thing was an amazing idea. Would be really fun in a co-operative city. I would not be against partaking in an event like that! Also, that final part of the scene was ❤ this is such a feel good no strings attached fun show that I just can’t help but love to pieces~

This explains why you are emotionally attached to the show. I should have known it was because it spoke to you on an emotional and nostalgic level.

It being super fun to watch is a given. There’s no doubt about that.

#TeamSensei There really is no other option. Kamuri may be cute but she’s not a romance option to me in any instance. The Enami relationship is also way more intriguing and appealing than anything Kamuri could offer, especially given how it was played in this episode.

What I particularly enjoyed was that despite Kamuri giving Eiko the ring, Eiko didn’t wear it at all throughout the rest of the episode (but she kept the paperclip from Enami with her).

  3. LuzeriP says:

Colors: Yui apologizing ruined the boss mafia image I had for her. Oh well. The zombie event was fun. People got along and be a zombie was so cool.

Slow Start: Wonderful episode. I can’t pick what team I am. Eiko is my hero. I want her to have all the girls. Conquer the teacher!

Despite peeps saying it’s part of Yui’s character it still was a burial. The Halloween Adventure made up for it though.

It’s a battle to be Eiko’s #1 harem girl. We already know most of the class is part of her harem.

I understand the importance of #1 harem girl’s title. I can’t choose between Kamuri and Sensei. I like sexy older woman and I like cute cuddly girl. I’m fine with whoever gets the title. May the best girl win.

I don’t get why so many think it a bad thing that Yui felt bad for tearing apart her friend…is that considered a good thing nowadays or something? Just because someone wrongs you…doesn’t mean you should wrong them back, and certainly doesn’t make a wrong that you do completely okay.

She was crying because she realized how much she hurt her friend. I just don’t get what’s the problem with that….

A high school teacher waking up hungover after a night of drinking, not remembering anything that happened, to find one of her students tied up on the floor in her apartment. That’s one way to shake up the seemingly unshakable sensei, all right. Hard to make that sound good if anyone else were to find out about it, after all.

That whole segment was great. The chemistry between Eiko and sensei was just excellent the whole time. I hope we get a lot more like this before this series is over.

  5. Irisu Erina says:

Kamu might be romantic with her ring, but she’s too passive to keep Eiko. The whole episode Eiko was wet about how hard to catch Sensei was, and then when Sensei one-upped her she got even more wet. That’s something Kamu can’t pull because she clearly enjoys being on the receiving end instead, and with that comment that she’s fine as long as the dog that goes out all night and returns home the next morning, it just foreshadows that one day the dog won’t return to her.

It’s a good thing that I’m completely Team Sensei because even if I wanted otherwise, Team Sensei can’t be beaten, that necklace was the cherry on top.

    • OG-Man says:

As I have told others here do not underestimate Kamuri. She knows how to play the game and even looks like she had some experience handling adults. She know how to approach Hiroe.

Having said that I’m on Team Sensei.

The Siege of Pinko will soon be commenced between Kamuri and Enami-sensei.

Personally, I think Pinko and Kamuri is more of a cute relationship while her with sensei is more of a mature relationship. Still don’t know if I should defect to sensei’s side or not

  7. Mauron says:

The Colors made an effort to remove the filth from their town! After locating a massive source (and settling on a smaller source that their containment system could handle), the Colors went in search of a dead body, instead finding a new powerup in the fight against evil. When zombies attack, it’s up to Red to save the day! Will Colors Green be joining the team? Find out next time on Mitsuboshi Colors!

On a silly note, Sat-chan and Kotoha would make excellent event planners someday.

Pinko has leveled some since her last encounter with the final boss, but only enough that she can put up a fight before the inevitable loss. Suddenly I’m reminded of an unwinnable fight in Lunar that I dragged out for over an hour before finally giving up, and advancing the plot…

Kamuri was dropping some massive hints at Pinko with that ring.

I remain firmly in Team Kamuri+harem. Sensei is just a harder target for the harem.

I don’t read the manga (can’t read Japanese and the chapters are only recently slowly translated), but the moment I realize that Eiko x Enami is a thing (because of manga pages uploaded here and there by either fans or official), I ship them. Hard.

You have no idea how much I kept myself from spoiling my friend about Eiko and Enami interaction as they squee over Kamu and Eiko’s one.

I was waiting how they are going to interact and last episode is a hint of how it will go, but this episode just hit it the way I want it.

So much romance in the air, so much tension between their interaction. I mean, I like my fluffy yuri, but Girl Friends is my first and most favorite yuri manga, so that moment of push and pull between the two of them, is what I really, really want from my yuri.

Some of my friend ask why it suddenly become… Citrus (as in they thought it is going to be subtext and nowhere near this level of intimacy).
And my answer is, well, ’cause it is a Slow Start…
    *Cue shade

Anyway, when it first announce I thought it is going to a middle rank anime of the season for me, at first episode I thought Yuru Camp, Toji no Miko, and Sora Yori most likely going to be on top of it, but after this episode finally shows that Eiko and Enami is in the menu, it now compete with Citrus for first spot on my list.

I keep telling people and will continue doing so, do not underestimate Kamuri’s abilities. She’s at a disadvantage because her rival is hotter and has more charms but Kamuri knows how to play the game. She has MANY plans to win. If one doesn’t work, try another.

Yup. I’m one of those most people 😛

Well I’m Team Sensei since the beginning 😀 So it’s magic for me…yay! 😛 The kind of competition they’re having almost always leads to something really magical ❤ 😀 Sensei’s a real challenge for Eiko that’s why she’s interested in her. Though Kamu-chan’s cute and all, still it seems Sensei’s the only one who can make Eiko’s heart race…weak in the knees…knock her off her feet or whatever you call it. In other words, Eiko gets a taste of her own medicine with Sensei and it’s really funny to see when she was all “What is this feeling?”. She seems to like it, that feeling she doesn’t often get from others. And she also likes that paper clip/hairpin despite all the other nice looking ones she has, but that necklace at the last part that, I gotta say, that was really wonderful. I mean who knew. I can understand Eiko’s speechlessness.

It’s a bit surprising though, that Kamu-chan doesn’t know about Eiko’s hobby. I wonder why she doesn’t tell anybody.

Colors: Another cute episode. Knew they were gonna stink bomb Saito.

Slow Start: As of this post it seems im in the minority, but im on Team Kamuri. And it surprises me since i usually like student/teacher yuri ships. But for some reason this one is just not resonating with me. Cant explain it. So this episode wasn’t as good for me as the others. Oh well. Dont let my opinion stop anyone from shippin them.
PS. Hanna is indeed a good girl.

  11. Hope I’m not alone with this but I’m team Kamuri, and I will go down with that ship. Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of teacher/student pairings, though my real problem with it is mostly with the age gap. I still think that the juicy interactions between Eiko and sensei are in the subtextual side of things. But I find it undeniable that Eiko does have a little infatuation with sensei.

Oh well, whatever happens, Hana x Tama is still my OTP from the show and what I am willing to focus more on.

  12. Colors: Indeed, Yui roasting Kotoha but then apologizing later does fit with her character perfectly, but did leave a slightly sad feeling. But then the zombie sketch made up for it big-time with how inventive Yui was throughout, leading to her victory!

Slow Start: Firmly on team #EikoHarem. Which means I can only lose! This is good. Occasionally I’m a masochist.

Of the individual ships though, I probably like #teamKamuri somewhat more. Possibly because #Cuteisjustice. And because cuddles > everything else.

    Hana is too cute!

All the hairpins. Also, the prayer thing I have a feeling is because all the hairpins sort of made it look like Eiko had become a Hairpin Shrine or something? Thus, prayers.

I’m tired of “Yui cries” jokes regardless of it being part of her character trait or weakness. But yeah the Halloween Adventure made up for that burial.

Eiko harem is not a legit option because it’s more “No Duh!”.

Also make sure to add that Kamuri isn’t “naive”. She knows what she’s doing and has an advantage over Sensei regardless of some here said.

Yuri fans being masochists is something I’ve noticed more and more in recent years.

If by Zack, you mean me, then I would be honored to do the episodic writeup. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’m the right person for the job. I’m kind of behind on Mitsuboshi Colors, and I don’t have confidence that I could do it.

In case you were wondering, I have been watching and enjoying Slow Start. It’s just that I haven’t been commenting since I wanted to wait until I watched Mitsuboshi Colors as well. Unfortunately, I keep procrastinating on watching the episodes of Colors that I’ve missed.

As for Eiko x Kamuri or Eiko x Sensei, it’s hard to choose. I like Eiko’s relationship with Kamuri, but Eiko with Sensei also has some good chemistry. However, it should be noted that in this episode Kamuri said something along the lines of how she’s fine with Eiko flirting with other girls so long as she always comes back to her. This seems to imply that Kamuri sees her relationship with Eiko as an open relationship. I’m fine with that. I just don’t want Kamuri to be sad if Eiko doesn’t choose her.

Ah. I said this because you always do a great job commenting on the Antarctica show, going into much greater detail than I do. It’s cool. As for not being able to talk about both shows don’t worry. Some drop by only to talk about one over the other so it’s all good.

Precisely. It’s not a good idea to underestimate Kamuri. She isn’t naive or a pushover. She’s just patient and chooses carefully when to make a move as we saw in this episode.

A lot of Team Sensei here I see.
Well, despite being a hardcore age gap fan (even better if it’s student-teacher), I’m having a dilemma here. If I were to only read the manga, I’m sure I’d root entirely for Sensei x Eiko but the anime also pushes Kamuri x Eiko really hard.

    Kamuri x Eiko:
Kamuri is basically as cute as Kanna from Kobayashi-san (they share the VAs too), and she’s cunning. Not only do I like her “laid-back” personality (remembering how she often asks for seconds in meals or gets up at 2pm and has breakfast and lunch!), I think she observes her surrounding pretty closely too (but only cares if it’s about Eiko) and that’s what I love about her. From what I can see in the anime is (haven’t read the manga yet, only got spoiled with some pages), Eiko means her world and she’d probably die out of loneliness in a world without Eiko. Their chemistry is rather on a cute/fluff and natural side, see how often Eiko uses Kamuri as her boob pillow.
I’m surprised how close they were even though both didn’t go to the middle school together. Something must have happened between them in elementary school (?). Kamuri will try her best to meet Eiko’s needs, I’m sure of it.

    Sensei x Eiko:
I saw promo art before the anime aired which already hinted at Sensei x Eiko (I think that’s Hakka-ya’s, the author’s personal preference), some hints were there in the first episodes (the one with the ice cream where Eiko got sad that Sensei didn’t choose the same sort of ice cream), but it was not only until the latest episode that suddenly this pairing really got introduced/exploded. From what I saw is that they bundled some scenes with Sensei x Eiko together, which were rather spread in the whole manga volumes. I’m not sure why, maybe because of impact, but it personally felt rushed and sudden for me (but I can’t really complain if we get more yuri that way).
Anyway, Sensei is a mature predator even though not realizing it herself, and Eiko is probably slowly falling in her ban (She even admitted that Sensei is her type). Their chemistry is for me on the teasing/mature side and having Eiko being a natural seducer, Sensei is like the only one that she can’t seduce/reach so easily. Having something hard to obtain makes things less boring, right?

Overall I liked the latest episode with Sensei very much, but I also love the other episodes which pushed Kamuri x Eiko (I’m one of the few? who loved Slow Start from the beginning). I can’t decide between the two teams now, I’m open for new surprises. Let’s see how the next episodes will turn out.

Well done Mai-chan. I knew you’d bring your expertise and lay down the law on why both teams are evenly matched, having their distinctive appeals AND showing some Team Sensei supporters why it is unwise to underestimate Kamuri. She knows how to play the game. Let’s not forget she can hang with older women too, like Hiroe.

all of these paragraphs are a bit intimidating, I’ll start with colors:
I know colors isn’t really a show geared towards shipping, but I’d probably go with ot3 if I was made to ship them at gunpoint tbh.

regarding Slow Start and the dilemma surrounding it:
honestly I’m conflicted, it’s hard for me to choose one of them, while I feel that the atmosphere of the show is leaning towards Eiko x Sensei, I think Kamuri definitely has a horse in this race. It’s somewhat of a love triangle situation where Kamuri is vying for Eiko’s affections and Eiko for Sensei’s, while Sensei seems somewhat indifferent for the time being aside from teasing Eiko a bit and I think that could be some incorporated instead of picking one pairing or the other at the moment, with drama mixed in and all that. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kamuri decided to make a more “direct” effort towards Eiko in the near future after feeling more of a distance created between them.

My goodness this episode of Slow Start was gay. Hana and Tama never disappoint, and Kamuri is still adorable alongside her beloved Harem Master, but Sensei just stepped into the ring. I know you know, but for those who don’t, I’m a massive yuri age gap lover (especially student-teacher) and so the Eiko x Sensei ship hits all the right notes for me. I love their chemistry and their dynamic. If I’m honest with myself, I’d have to say I’m on Team Sensei a bit more. However, Kamuri is absolutely still a contender and could very well win int he end, as she’s not just smart and cunning, but frankly she’s more realistic. She and Eiko are the same age and do have that deep bond of being friends for so long. She and Sensei on the other hand, only met in high school, and Sensei herself may cut the string before a relationship between she and Eiko can even become a possibility. Eiko is crushing on Sensei, no doubt, but in the end, she may very well be the one who loses and Kamuri will be the one still standing in her corner if that day should come. So don’t count Kamuri out, but don’t disregard Sensei either. It could really be anyone’s game. Good stuff this week all around.

This is why I’m so interested in this battle for the #1 spot in Eiko’s harem. Kamuri will continue doing her thing, finding opportunities to woo Eiko while Eiko herself, still smitten with Sensei will hunt again when the opportunity comes knocking. It annoys some but this is too good.

It’s a nice episode and it’s obvious that Kiyose isn’t making it easy for Eiko to win over her easily. Still, it’s interesting how Kiyose woke up in her apartment and see an Eiko with her arms tied up. It’s obvious that Kiyose have a thing for Eiko, but she is not making it easy. Also, the big age difference.

Still, Kamuri and Eiko pairing is obviously still adorable and I still think Kamuri is the #1 contender for obvious reasons.

Gosh, Yui’s a nice girl but even she has her limits and when she unfetters herself, there will be no mercy for you! She did apologize to Kotoha afterwards, showing she isn’t super heartless but I’m pretty sure Kotoha learned not to push her buttons too much.

The zombie event was tons of fun and, to be honest, I was surprised that quite a bit of people went along with it. That “Cure Zombie” spell was embarrassing to say but Yui had to do it to save the town. It was funny when she did it the second time since she was stocked to find the Boss Zombie and that momentum was cut short. I wonder if that was Kotoha’s way of getting back at her a bit.

Huh, I didn’t know about that particular rule for teachers and social workers. That aside, Eiko and Enami-sensei have great chemistry. As for who’s a better match for Eiko…I can’t tell. I mean, Kamu/Eiko have their strengths and the same can be said for Eiko/Enami. I don’t know, it’s like comparing two boxers who are in two very different weight classes.

It’s nice that everyone (but Kamuri) got Eiko hairpins for her birthday but the one she made will always be on top. Won’t Tama and Kamu be in for a surprise when they find out how good she is with her hands.

Hm, Hana had some nice bonding moments with Tama and Eiko, so logically, she’ll get some bonding time with Kamuri sometime soon.

Regardless of it being a “Yui thing” it’s still a shame she regretted her actions right away.

Haaa… I have yet to watch Mitsuboshi Colors and I feel I ought to start now.

Anyway, I just caught up with Slow Start. I honestly do not know what to feel about the Team Kamuri and Team Sensei stuff haha. I really REALLY like Eiko x Kamuri but there’s a certain appeal to Eiko x Sensei’s scenes that it made me feel guilty.

Right now, I’ve assumed a stance where I’m considering Eiko x Kamuri and Eiko x Sensei as if they’re in 2 different animes. All is well.

Phew. Thanks for always posting these stuff – I get my watch list from your episodic posts lol.
