URAHARA Episode 5: Kira-Kiraru

Let’s make this a quick one.

Misa was helping keep Park tidy when Rito showed her some pretty beads to make cute accessories with when suddenly the Scoopers attacked.

Mari was wonderful as usual this episode.

There were a lot of Scoopers wreaking havoc around town. This time they were sucking all the kira-kiraru (PreCure fans will get the reference) from everything. The girls, especially Misa, wanted to take action but only our three heroines did so since Misa didn’t have powers but that didn’t stop her from wanting to help.

I’m not going to go into great detail discussing the episode as it was a big fight scene between our heroines and the Scooper army. Readers are free to mention their favorite moments in the comments below. Let’s briefly go over the highlights.

Scoopers lured towards a flower ceiling drawing by Rito.

There were far too many Scoopers despite our heroines having taken down a big group earlier in the battle so Rito had a plan to lure all the other Scoopers in one location, a huge drawing on the Sugar Dome ceiling. It worked and Kotoko once again showed she was capable of doing more than analyze the enemy. It was a cool little moment.

The Scoopers were down but not out as they merged into a titanic form. Fortunately for our heroines it was a lumbering giant so they were able to find a weak spot and take it down before it caused major damage.

After the battle Rito drew another drawing on the ceiling to make the “skies” a more cheerful sight for everyone. I’m sure Misa supporters enjoyed this episode.

Anyway I’ve reached the point of “Whatever happens, happens” with this show so don’t expect me to talk about it as enthusiastically anymore.

  1. So, no dark twists or turns this episode either, yet, huh? I am wondering if the show will really even have some, though it is still possible.

Hmm…those discussions between Misa and Ebifrai this episode both make me wonder if Misa really is somewhat on our heroine’s side, what on earth her connection to Ebifrai even is, etc. etc. etc. I do hope we get explanations for such later on in the show, which I suppose we likely will…

But if she is somewhat on “the side of good”, then what was that last episode, with the data erasing? Ebifrai’s mind control? Some kind of desire of “if they solve this too fast, then they’ll leave me and I’ll be alone again” – idea? Something else? And what was with her possessiveness, calling the sparkly things “hers” and only really caring about the ones that are “hers”? Just childish selfishness? Something else entirely, possible darker? I guess we do know she’s human at least, since Ebifrai pointed it out while the two were alone, with no reason to lie to anyone (unless Ebifrai is breaking the 4th wall and lying to the audience!?)…

My mind swirls with questions, few answers, and not quite enough hope the show will answer such questions satisfactorily, though of course that could happen as well, since we’re still farily early into the show.

As I said I’m watching the show to see what happens rather than try and figure things out. Translation, whoever is a traitor I’ll accept rather than throw a fit asking why or why not.

I’m standing by Misa is trustworthy when not under the influence of Fried Shrimp based mind-control. She wishes she could help, if only there was another source of superpowers in the show…

Painting the dome is a good way to cheer everyone up.

Should she end up being brainwashed by Fried Shrimp the fried shrimp then I’ll eat candy corn.

      Yes it is.

I suspect as-needed mind control and and manipulating events to give her a story to share. Unless Misa is Japanese for “trustworthy human”, she’s got too much creativity in her background to be a Scooper.

If I’m wrong I’ll eat candy corn. If I’m right I might still eat candy corn. If I see some candy corn at the store I might eat candy corn. I should check the local stores for discount Halloween candy.

I don’t think there’s mind control. Maybe manipulation. Maybe she’s an experiment from the enemy originally meant just to get the group to do their thing. A scooper princess planted into a human body…sort of scenario. And she’s started to see the value in keeping things as they are, instead of just consuming them mindlessly. Just, the part of her being human seemed less a “you’re human, so this is dangerous for you” and more a “Have you forgotten you’re a human right now?” sort of thing in the way it was presented/worded.

But I really don’t think there’s any mind control, and fully believe Misa is doing all of this of her own will. Whatever the reason may be, she’s definitely beginning to have second thoughts and moving towards betrayal to the shrimp

She seemed genuinely confused a couple episodes ago when Fried Shrimp referred to the invading Scooper as a friend.

I’m not convinced that was a “you’re human right now”, but that is a possibility.
