Konohana Kitan Episode 2: Mystical Day Out

Time again for the hearts of peeps following this show to be filled with absolute joy.

More Sexy Satsuki.jpg

Satsuki in the onsen.

We joined Kiri and an upset Satsuki refusing to take a day off but Kiri retorted that working hard every day won’t be enough to allow her to leave Konohanatei. She reluctantly accepts the off day.

Satsuki and Yuzu onsen.jpg

Satsuki and Yuzu underwater together. Classic Yuri Sign.

Yuzu attended to Satsuki and she spoke about appreciating the beauty of the world around them. These words touched Satsuki enough to invite Yuzu out on a date (As Kiri so eloquently pointed out) since she had the day off too. Yuzu of course was ecstatic.

Ren hiding her grouchiness.jpg

Ren (poorly) hiding her true nature again.

Before going on their date Ren disapproved their not-so improper appearances and had Satsuki fix herself up while she tended to Yuzu. She then blurted out that Satsuki was working hard so that one day she could leave Konohanatei and become a priestess.

Maneki Neko saleswoman

I think two fans in particular became Yuzu’s enemies after this maneki-neko scene. That or I misunderstood what the joke was.

Side women dating.jpg

You know you’re a huge yuri fan when seeing two women walking together closely and looking at each other instantly makes you think they’re dating.

Yuzu feeding Satsuki.jpg

This girl is going to kill me.

There was much tail wagging and tsundere appreciation during the date. They also talked a bit about the various races walking around town. While Yuzu had many human guests at her old place she didn’t know much about the outside world despite her impressive knowledge. She thanked Satsuki for inviting her out and Satsuki had a hard time saying “You’re welcome”.

Dried up Sakura tree.jpg

Dried up Sakura tree.

As their date continued they passed by two guys talking about a dry sakura tree at a nearby shrine. Yuzu, thinking about Satsuki leaving one day asked her to go to the shrine, which lit a fuse. She angrily said no but she didn’t talk her down. She told her to wait there and not get lost as she went to the bathroom. Yuzu was smitten by her kindness.

Ghost girl.jpg

Ghost girl.

Suddenly a “ghosty” girl showed up looking for her spooky imouto. Yuzu offered to help her look.

Ghost imouto.jpg

Spooky imouto.

After finishing her “business” Satsuki conveniently ran into the spooky imouto. She…convinced Satsuki to help her look for her onee-san. While searching Satsuki, in her own way, related to the imouto as she talked about her onee-san who was annoying and didn’t take her seriously (or something like that) but was still awesome. Satsuki felt similarly about her own nee-san. I’m not sure what kind of ghosts/spirits the two are but they seem to be guardians of the city. I’m sure someone with knowledge on Japanese folklore can help explain in the comments.

Satsuki Flashback.jpg

Flashback.

If I understand Satsuki’s flashback correctly, she wanted to become a priestess, which her sister Hiiragi was cool with, but everyone else wanted Hiiragi to become one. Probably because she’s older. I think Papa agreed with Hiiragi but Mama said to listen to the higher ups and send Satsuki to Konohanatei instead of Hiiragi.

Ghost imouto planning something fishy.jpg

Spooky imouto planning something fishy with Satsuki.

Sensing a…”kindred spirit” in Satsuki the spooky imouto took her to the dried up sakura tree in hopes that with their combined “imouto-ness” they could revive the tree and make their sisters proud, more so the ghost onee-san. The onee-san noticed right away and used her power to revive the tree herself.

Yuzu finding Satsuki.jpg

What followed next between our leading ladies served to further strengthen their OTP status.

Peeps who paid attention during the flashback can tell which one is Hiiragi.

Another great episode. Before leaving though…

Konohanatei Kitan relationship chart.jpg

This is a the manga version’s relationship chart. Hopefully the anime will follow suit. Based on what we’ve seen so far it’s a safe bet they’ll at least give us plenty to work with.

    This episode was so good!
Only two episodes in, and I’m already convinced that this show is one of the best that this season has to offer.
I was looking forward to seeing the relationship between Yuzu and Satsuki develop more, and this episode delivered exactly that. It’s just pure joy.

In relation to Ren/Natsume, I’ve heard there was even a plot-important confession! :O

I’m quite happy with my Yuzu/Satsuki ship! Though part of me feels like some of the moments this episode deepened their relationship too much, like it came too soon. That said, I’m happy if it means we get closer to the yuri

Wait…is the relationship chart from the old or new manga?

It’s from Konohanatei Kitan: the old one. It’s the only one that’s been translated so far, sadly. However, all the episodes we’ve been getting are also from the old manga, so the anime clearly considers both series to be canon.

We’re also getting some episodes from the new one based on what I saw on the OP. Translation for the new one is on the way. 🙂

I still like the idea of Kiri x Satsuki, but Satsuki x Yuzu has become quite an adorable thing. There needs to some form of fanwork for the former pair.

Don’t mess with the cat shopkeeper! She’s a nice shopkeeper and even does the paw thing.

The tree rescue with no background to suddenly hitting the ground transition cracked me up. More scenes like that are required.

Just finished this one since I was busy yesterday, I’m really happy with how they handled this chapter, and we definitely got some nice Yuzu x Satsuki moments, definitely my OTP, that’s set in stone at this point.

I’d assumed that the sisters Yuzu and Satsuki met in this one are pilgrims, since they were journeying alongside many others on what seemed to be a holy journey, in pre-modernized Japan, people are sacrificed in order to bring a bountiful harvest or stave off natural disasters, it looks to me that the sisters sacrificed themselves in some sort of Shinto ritual to resurrect the tree, since we don’t see them after that, kind of morbid…

The episode went well as expected. I love how the anime adapted the manga and stayed faithful to the content. I wish they will also follow and improve the relationship chart as the series progresses. The attention to detail is really good especially the tail wagging of our resident tsundere, Satsuki. Oh man, the next episode is something to look forward to for the nation. I bet a lot of people will be happy.

I have to admit that this is a fun date. It’s bound to happen given that they both have off. Still, it’s nice to see Yuzu give that indirect kiss to Satsuki. Either way, it’s nice to see them even closer than they were in the first episode. Still, it will be nice to see how the rest of the pairings develop.

That was fast. Yuzu and Satsuki’s first date was sublime. Yuzu brought out the Big Guns, with her unabashed praise and tail-wagging. Satsuki tried to counter with Tsundere, but Yuzu’s ridiculous honesty was too powerful. I was really surprised to see Satsuki’s defenses crack so quickly.

I think the “Sisters” might be Cherry Blossom spirits. Their hair and eye color, plus their need to always travel North gave off that kind of feeling. That’s why most of their kind already disappeared. It was the time of year when the blossoms began to fall.

Will Satsuki and Yuzu become a thing? They’re certainly cute enough together. However, I think Yuzu has a few secrets left.

I don’t know what to say. This is too cute. My heart can’t take it. Yuzu x Satsuki definitely OTP. Can’t wait for Natsune’s episode. I have a feeling she’s going to be my favorite.

That was definitely a lovely date ❤ Satsuki should get drunk more lol 😉 I was hoping for more to happen when Satsuki pulled Yuzu in the onsen hehehe 😛

I actually was just watching those two girls walk by and thought they’re probably together 😀 That scene where Yuzu was feeding Satsuki reminded me of Umiko having a similar look when Nenechi’s feeding her, so adorably cute…both of them 🙂 Also I like how Satsuki’s tail keeps wagging while being a tsundere 😀 And what’s with Yuzu’s look? Those close up scenes when she smiles at Satsuki as if she’s the calm, gentle, mature and cute girlfriend….not that I’m complaining 😀

Anyway, that chart’s accurate with my own chart in my head but 😀

I imagine that is but a taste of what’s to come between the two.

Glad I wasn’t the only one.

It was a very similar scene.

Yuzu is a foxy angel from the heavens. We are not worthy of such cuteness.

We’ll see if the anime stays true to the other couples like in the manga.
