New Game!! (Double Plus) Episode 10: Spec Changes and Bugs

Some neat stuff happened in this episode.

Red Light, Green Light.jpg

We kicked off the episode with a “Red Light, Green Light” mini-game for PECO Tsubame was working on and Hajime helped guide her in the right direction.

The problem was that while Tsubame had little problem working on the mini-game it felt like it was missing something. Hajime didn’t know how to properly tell Tsubame to work on the specs some more so the other ladies gave her a head start.

Quibbling between future spouses.

The second time went better but Momo noticed a little snafu internet critics would also see and got into a little quibble with Tsubame over it. Hajime cut Tsubame some slack and told her it was fine the way it was but signs pointed at that the specs needing even more changes. Tsubame then told Hajime that while these delays didn’t affect Hajime very much for her they were very worrisome, what with it affecting her future job application resume. The two agreed to take things more seriously.

Later Umiko-kun dropped by to check up on Tsubame after getting word from Hajime and even invited her to play airsoft to relieve stress. She then explained Hajime being a recent employee of Eagle Jump’s and didn’t have much experience. Thankfully Hajime worked things out and the two were able to present a superior version of the mini-game to Director Hazuki.

Tsubame being less harsh towards Nene.

We then joined Nene on her noble quest to earn the praise of her beloved. She got to a point where the maze was about finished. There was one small bug at the finish line but Nene didn’t think it was a big deal. She went around asking if she could help with other duties but everyone was busy correcting specs and bugs. Before deciding to take it easy Tsubame scolded her for not properly finishing her maze. She then gave her the idea to add more content to the maze.

Nene didn’t get to add new features in time but she did get one step closer to her personal goal. As far as her career goal went she was at least heading in the right direction. She didn’t get to work on Programming yet but at least Umiko-kun acknowledged her debugging skills enough to work a little bit on PECO. Keep it up Nenecchi! You’re doing well.

The second half had most of our heroines split up in pairs and enjoy the night. I will only discuss one pair in particular.

Ko and Rin having a pseudo-date.jpg

Pseudo-dates seem to be the trend in this season of New Game! No complaints here.

So it had been a LOOOOONG time since we got a RinKo scene but here we are. Ko and Rin were the only two left at the office and Rin came prepared. They talked about how big of a change it was for Ko working alongside Aoba and Hifumi on PECO compared to before when she pretty much did all that herself. Ko said she would have been fine doing it by herself again with PECO. Rin then told her she had Aoba and Ko to be co-designers in hopes that the two working together would push them to create something more amazing, which is pretty much what happened.

Ko’s thank you gift for Rin.

Ko then took the time to thank Rin for being by her side from the very beginning, always supporting her. To show her appreciation she got her a special gift. Rin of course was ecstatic but also a bit concerned. See, in the afternoon and even now Ko looked like something was bothering her.

Ko's booty returns.jpg

Best booty in the series.

Guess we’ll have to wait till next time to see if Rin’s concern is justified.

Yaaaay! I am so hyped! I am already seeing where this is going :3

I can’t wait for the final episode to release so I can finally command a DVD package and watch and re-watch this season at least two times during my one-week holiday.

That aside, I just want to say that this anime is awesome, and so are you, dear OG-Man sensei. Please keep up that good work and good day to every Nation members!

With the atmosphere they maintained at the end, I was almost expecting RinKo to be canonized right then and there, however, the wonderful shipping content we got will definitely suffice.

I still want a definitive Aoba x Hifumi scene, but it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting one anytime soon, we did get a small amount of shipping content for Umiko x Nene and Tsubame x Momo, which I’m satisfied with for the time being.

If/When there’s a season 3, I’m curious as to what type of game they’ll be making and whether or not Nene will be able to work with Umiko, but maybe I’m just thinking too far into the future…

In conclusion; good episode, it was a bit more lighthearted than some of the previous ones, which I’m happy about, since drama doesn’t suit cute yuri well.

    • More drama headed our way says:

Actually, considering the mood they were going for and considering what’s going to happen next, I was half expecting a moment like in kenshin and I won’t say more than that.

Momo was completely right about Naru, she was being lazy in the exact same way as Nene was later in the episode. In fact, that’s probably part of why she mentioned it. Momo seems great for Naru when she’s not drooling over Aoba, so hopefully she’s over that.

Hajime jumped at the chance to eat Hotpot with Yun. I couldn’t help but think her offering of a toy looked like a proposal. I don’t think Yun’s quite ready for that yet.

Nene started a slacking habit, then went overboard with new ideas. Any one of them would have exceeded the requirements and impressed Umiko. You’ll have Hazuki to help with extra requirements once you’re there full time. Umiko is there to catch Nene when she falls, figuratively and literally.

Speaking of looking like a proposal, Ko had a well timed gift despite not getting the idea behind Rin’s candlelit dinner. Unlike Yun, Rin is QUITE ready for a proposal.

Will Momo see a pantsless Ko next episode? We will see.

I noticed the end credits have a shot of Hajime and Yun trying to get Hifumi to try on their fake glasses. That deserves a full scene. There wasn’t enough Hifumi this episode.

Yup. She doesn’t want to admit it but she’s no better than Nene.

Yun needs some time to get used to being in love.

Keep it up Nene. You’re doing well.

      Yup. Rin’s more than ready.

It’d be interesting to see Momo’s reaction to seeing Ko’s habits.

I’m sure Hifumi will get her time back in the spotlight soon.

I have a bad feeling in that last part though -_-
Ko’s ‘thank you’ seemed sad. I don’t like it one bit. Hopefully it’s just me…

You are not alone here. Imho there are a couple of moments in this episode that are quiet foreshadowing of something very sad. Like Kou watching out the windows during the meeting and Rin asking her repeatedly if something was wrong. And her answers were always evasive like if she was hiding something. Let us be clear: with new hires incoming, Hifumi promotion and the old members of the cast becoming more and more confident I think that Kou leaving the company and Aoba taking her role would just be a natural evolution, probably the right one if you ask me. Still, it would be very sad to see Rin heartbroken…

It’s nice that Narumi isn’t being so mean towards Nene. At least Nene finished her first task properly. Hopefully she will get better so she can reach her dream as a super programmer.

It’s nice to see some more Kou and Rin since they haven’t been seen together that much in the second season. Still, I wonder what Kou is worried about too.

Yeah. It’s cool that she toned down the harshness. Ganbatte Nenecchi!

Seeing them bonding was sorely missed for the longest time this season.
We’ll have to wait and see what most likely is bothering Ko.

Rin and Ko!!! Finally a moment with them together. I mentioned in my livetweets about their romantic candle light dinner, but I wasn’t expecting Ko to give Rin a present like that. Aww so sweet. Those two are such a great couple, I’m cheering them on!

But yeah Ko did seem like she was hiding something behind that sudden gift giving. Having not read the manga in ages I literally have no idea what’s going to happen (I like it more this way) but I sense some more drama on the horizon. The rest of the ep was great too. Always enjoy watching this show.

Most of us are. They’re so good together.

That’s my mantra. I much prefer going into these shows blind over having already read the manga and wanting to see what certain events look like animated, then praising or complaining about the execution.

Oh I’m sure more drama is on the way. It is the last two episodes after all.

And I thought Rin would be use to Ko’s pantie shots.
