Princess Principal Episode 10: Holiday Espionage

A Christmas themed episode. Let’s see what we got.

Ange in her early years training at the Farm.jpg

Akuma no Riddle flashback.

We start with a flashback of Ange and Dorothy at the Farm, a training academy for spies. Besides giving viewers some background on what kind of training the two underwent the main reason for it was to introduce one girl in particular.

Miss Eleanor.jpg

Miss Eleanor, aka “Prefect”.

Back in the present Ange, Dorothy and Beatrice were sent on a mission to rendezvous with another agent, Prefect, nicknamed by Dorothy because of how diligent she was at the Farm. She showed her skills by easily sneaking up on Beatrice. Before meeting up with the gang she mentioned hating Christmas because it reminded her of someone.

After the mission we learned that Prefect was the second best at the Farm with Ange being #1. So it was no surprise that Ange and Prefect were rivals and to this day didn’t get along outside of work.

A drug of sorts.jpg

A sort of drug.

Strangely after some time had passed Prefect asked to go to the bathroom. There we saw her take some kind of drug to calm down what appeared to be anxiety. Because this was an anime the person she hinted at admiring seemed to be Ange.

Afterward she only found Dorothy at the table. We later see the other two went to Prefect’s apartment to look for evidence indicating she’s a double-agent. Ange revealed to Beatrice that the main objective was actually to find out whether Prefect was a traitor. Beatrice wasn’t told about it earlier because she was the worst at keeping a low profile, much to her dismay.

When it became clear that Prefect was a traitor Dorothy had the three spread out and corner Prefect but Ange instead chose to confront her head on, much to Prefect’s surprise. She accused Ange of “going soft” and caused a distraction allowing her to escape…or so she thought.

Flashback of Dorothy and Prefect having fun.

It didn’t take long for the gang to catch Prefect. Dorothy cornered her and she then came clean. The person she admired wasn’t Ange but her. We got more details about a second flashback we saw in the middle of the episode during their final exam. Prefect messed up and she felt like they failed the exam because of her. Dorothy was like, “Eh. Screw it. Let’s go to the amusement park!” Prefect deep down greatly admired Dorothy’s “do it my way” approach to life rather than the typical “by the books” stuff she put up with. After graduation she tried to lay low and move on but couldn’t. Dorothy tried reasoning with her to come with them and they’d work things out but Prefect knew it was already too late.

Things didn’t end well…Also Ange confronted Prefect so as to prevent Dorothy from doing something she would definitely regret.

Uh-oh.

The episode ended with a new leader, General, taking command of Control from L and giving Ange and Dorothy their next mission…assassinate Princess…Dun dun duuunnnn.

We all knew the moment at the end was coming, but this episode led up to it really well by sort of previewing those tough moments were you’re going to be put up against your friends and the tough decisions you’re going to have to make. Should be real interesting on this final stretch.

  2. S**t is about to get real…. As always however, this show is top class. I swear i could watch a hundred episodes and never get enough. Can’t wait to see how Ange is going to respond to this latest mission.

Prefect was a top-tier spy, second only to Ange. However, it was Dorothy who had her admiration because of how laid back she was and because she took to the fair when she had never gone before. Prefect really tried her best but apparently she did it out of desperation and she definitely wasn’t in good shape. It seemed like she just couldn’t continue living the stressful life of a spy. That, and being declared a traitor meant she had no other options at her disposal so she ended it so Dorothy didn’t have to. Once again, Poor Dorothy.

Ange would never admit that the actions she took were to keep Dorothy from staining her hands with the blood of a friend. It’s her way of being nice, being an alien and all.

…Wut? Their next objective is to assassinate Princess!? Man, I don’t like this General dude and I miss L already. I wonder why Control just decided to waste such a good asset to their plans?

    Few things:
First, this show is fantastic amazing

Second, I actually thought the drug was the leash that her “managers” put on her. As Dorothy explained, she got captured, and co-erced into working with them. And what better way to keep someone “loyal” than to get them hooked on a drug that only you can provide? I mean, i’ts only a hypothesis, but I think it makes sense

Third, I am liking DorothyxBeatrice quite much

Fourth, General REALLY opened up pandora’s box with this order. I know why he’s doing it. But quite honestly, I don’t think he realizes he just started up the revolution of their top genius spy, a master swordsgirl who can take a sword to a gunfight and still come out on top, a source of total confusion, someone who is quite skilled as a spy and helps to keep everyone calm, and a young lady who could likely start an actual revolution with her level of charisma and leadership skills.

Not saying it’s going to be an easy fight, but saying that they really really made a bad move.

One thing to note, a Dorothy x Beatrice moment… Just after Beatrice did her dog whistle, look at Dorothy’s and Beatrice’s expressions looking at one another (Though more Beatrice).

I always thought this would happen because in the opening credits you have Ange and Princess falling through their air, and Ange turns round to aim at the others.

    • Though, in the opening, it could also be that we’re meant to think Ange is aiming at the others on their team, when in reality she’s aiming at somebody behind their team…perhaps someone chasing them who Ange wanted to catch off-guard or something. I guess we’ll have to see about Dorothy, Beatrice and Chise, whether their loyalty to Princess is stronger than their other connections…

Chise’s got zero loyalty to either group. Has great loyalty to her homeland. And already stated it was the Princess whom she felt worth following. Beatrice, again, zero loyalty to either side, and only will follow the Princess. Dorothy has already showed faltering on her loyalty to them (keeping various secrets from the top brass).

        Ange(Charlotte)…is a no brainer

  6. Dorothy deserves better says:

Good god, I hate seeing Dorothy suffer. She’s way too good for this spy stuff.

As for assassinating Princess, that was expected. Seeing what we’ve got in the previous episodes, Ange will probably sacrifice herself so Princess can live on and fulfill their dream, regaining her former identity as Ange but remaining as Princess (Ange herself would probably fail as a princess considering Princess far surpassed her in everything that is expected of a real princess), thus inverting operation changeling.

That or something like what kracen said will happen. Either way, it’s going to be a lot of drama and Dorothy will be sad… Again…

  7. I wish this show was 2 core. I’ve loved these first 10 episodes, but I feel like this should still be just the beginning, not 2 from the end.

Considering the nonlinear chapter progression (case number at the start of each episode), they’re probably hoping this season does well so they can eventually have a second season with case files that either fill in the gaps or leave even more gaps to be filled by later seasons. At least that’s what I’m hoping for. This anime is awesome and it’ll be one of those I’ll miss the most from 2017.

Shit just went from 0 to 100 in a heartbeat, I was almost expecting Ange to pull a gun at the end scene and go AWOL right then and there, but it seems the power of the cliffhanger was too strong.

I don’t really have much to say about this one, but I was pretty fucking sad when Prefect went and offed herself, was expecting a more “Hopeful” outcome, but I guess this IS PriPri.

Honestly, shit’s hitting the fan in so many of the seasonal shows I follow, it’s just constant fan-shit-hitting all around, it’s utter chaos.

Lastly, there’s actually a pretty damned solid yuri ship in Shingeki no Bahamut s2, it seems like it’ll survive until the end of the series, which makes me happy.

Now, the fun starts. The General giving Ange and Dorothy an order to assassinate Princess could be a way for the Commonwealth to test the team’s loyalty before launching an all-out attack. Or they just saw the Princess as a threat right from the start and decided to use her as a stepping stone in achieving their goal. Of course, Ange will protect Charlotte at all costs and I think the loyalty of the girls rests on each other. Yes, they lie to each other but the bond and friendship they’ve formed is real.

I think this episode was the last deciding factor for Dorothy to place her full trust to her team. Losing a friend when you know you could have done something to save her is so painful. Ange and Dorothy both have a choice on proceeding with the mission or not complying with it. I’m not sure but they could also “fake” Charlotte’s death. They are good liars and staging an assassination won’t be hard for them. This way, they could prove their “loyalty” to the Commonwealth and figure out its true goals while also working with Charlotte underground.

I can’t wait to see how this show will wrap up. I’m in for the roller coaster ride.

I usually end up watching the episodes a day or two late, but thanks to Irma kicking my ass, I’ve only just gotten the chance to watch it. It was of course, worth the delay.
I’m left wanting a second cour even more after this one. The reason this time being that I’ve really enjoyed some of the characters that have only appeared in one episode, like the girls from the laundry mill, Lily from the last episode, and now Eleanor.

Prefect in particular… ugh I really felt it when she off’d herself, and I really didn’t see it coming. I guess I was just blinded by how much I was enjoying her character.
So it was a a bit of a bittersweet end for me, with the minuscule sweetness being that I won’t have to wait to see more of her… and looking at that, there doesn’t seem to be anything sweet at all.

Gosh that all makes me sound really upset when I’m really not (I REALLY liked Prefect though)! Hard to be upset after another fantastic episode and having power again. And the next episode will definitely be a great one, what with a hint of plot advancement and all that.
Princess is totally going to be fine by the way. The power of love is not to be underestimated!
As always, looking forward to the next episode.

After a few lighter hearted eps, things are back to being serious. What an ending. Things are really heating up now. I’m guessing these final 2 eps will be a thrilling ride. I just wish this show was a 2 cour, especially since they have had 20+ cases, so having 20+ eps would make sense, but oh well. Wishful thinking.

Also, Dorothy’s had it rough in recent eps. First her Father getting killed, now Perfect. Damn, I don’t like seeing her suffer.

Yes. I’d love to see all the missing cases get animated as well in a 2nd half.

Poor Dorothy. I do hope Beatrice comforted her and will continue doing so should they survive the really intense stuff coming up.
