Kase-San 2018 Anime Project Announced

The Yuri Nation’s voices from across the globe had been heard.

Kase-san 2018 announcement

I am 95% certain this is the 20 minute per episode anime we have all been hoping for since the hype for a Kase-san anime began. Will the animation be by the same studio that brought us the excellent music video? That remains to be seen. First things first, hoping it’ll be a 20 minute per episode show. Which studio picks it up will be thought about later.

My most anticipated anime of 2018 confirmed.

would be how i rank the results of those “(some kind of) new animation project confirmed” news.

OMG! This is great news indeed. I hope this attention to the genre will continue to increase. There are lots of manga with good potential for anime adaptation. I super love Kase-san so I’m really looking forward to this anime project. I think there’s another yuri manga getting animated soon. It’s called Konohana Kitan just in case you want to check it out. :>

Usually the animation will be the same with the PV. Unless something unexpected happens. I don’t care what kind of animation, I just so happy right now.

This truly is a great day. What great news to hear after coming back from vacation. My heart was able to handle many adorable characters like Naru and Renge in the past but I don’t know if will be ready for the cutest anime character ever, Yamada. I don’t think I’ll be able to handle Kase-san’s sexiness either. I can’t wait for this to come out.

Now what’s next, Bloom Into You? Let the right people see the results of our last Yuri Tournament… just saying 😛

Well anyway, I can’t find anything I’d have to add to what OG already summed up perfectly, so there you go~

I sensed a great disturbance in the Yuri. As if millions of voices SQEEEEEEE!ed in happiness and were suddenly….well they remained happy, because KASE-SAN ANIME!!!!!!!

I do hope they remember to show that Yamada and Kase are also SEXUALLY attracted to each other. This whole “Pure Love” thing needs to die in a fire. There’s nothing wrong with being attracted to your lover. In fact, it’s the most normal thing in the world. Anyway, I expect a great adaptation. For Yuri!

Just follow the manga’s script and make the sweet moments sweeter and the sexy moments sexier and we’re all set.

    • Okami says:

I hope oppositely, that we are finally getting some pure love GxG anime.

The whole sex = love thing needs to die and and we need more anime about actual love and romance between girls. Those who want just some real life-like casual relationship can stick to their western live action crap.

Because I am expecting this to be a pure love is a reason I am so hyped about this Anime!

      • Cytrus says:

Knew we would get this fundamental divide between parts of the fandom as soon as I saw ArcaJ’s answer.

The healthy thing is when a show can acknowledge the presence of physical attraction, with all the excitement and pleasure it can provide, while remaining firmly aware that a relationship does not revolve around that physical attraction.

Such golden balance requires much skill from all staff involved, though, and is perceived differently by people with different cultural and religious backgrounds, so it is always difficult to present something both tasteful and real to all viewers.

      • Okami says:

@Cytrus Not everyone wants something real. The biggest reason I like Anime as a whole is exactly because it is moved away from real life. While your cup of tea might be in balance between the two, I definitely prefer it to be as much of a pure romance as possible. I don’t mind physical attraction at all as long as it is not a sexual kind, not all physical attraction is sexual attraction, and for me anything sexual destroys the romance and that warm/fuzzy feels witch is what I love about Shoujo-AI/Yuri.

      • Cytrus says:

I think that, as an individual, I might be on the same page as you more than you would suspect, Okami. My cornerstone yuri experience was the original Lyrical Nanoha, culminating in the Namae wo Yonde/Call my Name scenes. Since that’s a story about the profound bond forming between two 9-year-old girls, there is nothing sexual about it, especially at that point.

So in general, I’m not interested in peeking into people’s bedrooms, het or yuri notwithstanding. There are places meant for that (H/porn), and we can all be happy if the division is kept like that for the most part.

However, far more important than any genre and meta distinctions is whether your characters feel genuine in their personalities and actions. Shows like K-On! fought with the strength of their characters alone, and were huge hits. In such cases, when physical attraction is a natural part of the character, the show must do it justice. In K-On!, we had Yui and Azusa, where Yui felt the constant need to show physical affection (most often hugs) while Azusa also felt the internal need for that proximity but her personal dignity demanded that she behave properly at all times, leaving her conflicted. With Mio and Ritsu, on the other hand, Mio’s reserved personality made it so that obvious displays of affection would feel suffocating rather than encouraging for her, and her closest friends knew and respected that. We also get an entire episode dedicated to the problem of Mugi feeling left out of the physical intimacy going on in the club. So the ideas of physical intimacy are extremely important for all the main characters and explored appropriately. Note that K-On! is commonly regarded as a “goggles-level” yuri show, so none of that has to be seen as romantic, much less sexual, in nature. As you say, not all physical attraction is sexual attraction, and I can only ditto that. So the interpretation can be left to the viewer, but those character aspects/interactions are still an important part of the show.

Then there are shows where a character’s experiences and development connected to sexuality/sexual attraction are part of that “genuine character development”. Aoi Hana, Hourou Musuko, Umineko no Naku Koro ni (novels) are all examples of works in which yuri characters are part of or face the prospect of an intimate physical relationship, and their emotional responses and development form a core part of the story. And they all do that while including no actual erotic or fanservice content, getting the meanings across subtly and tastefully.

When sexual content is included because “fanservice sells”, that is rage-worthy.
When a relationship between two characters is altered or censored because “general appeal sells”, that is exactly as rage-worthy.

Both of the above are common downfalls that can turn potential greatness into mediocrity. I want great stories, so I want creative staff to let characters be themselves, whatever that implies. It is nice when a show is made up my alley to begin with, but it is even better if a show can win me over based on its unique strengths. And only the latter can be something that leaves its mark on history, with us recommending the title to newcomers to the genre and discussing it long after the initial broadcast.

    • I agree! I think Kase-san strikes a good balance between the sweet and the sexual, which is one of the things I really like about it. “Pure love” Yuri is the vast, vast majority of Yuri anime out there, and frankly, while I enjoy that sometimes, I think it’s the reason this genre wasn’t becoming more popular. I’d rather see Yuri grow with adaptations that will bring people in like Kase-san and Citrus than to stagnate in the very niche Maria-sama varieties.

I’d say Citrus is not the best example of doing this but I can’t deny its popularity so it’ll at least bring more sauciness and intrigue without pissing off purists. In any case I’m excited for Kase-San on both a personal level and because I strongly believe it is one of THE SHOWS that will please open-minded peeps, purists and the mainstream in one fell swoop…as long as the anime does it well of course

  16. As long as it’s not A1 pictures doing the animation, nor NTR’s company, we should be fine.

Finally some Warm and Fuzzy Yuri. Not a drama shit like Citrus nor a cancerous yuri like NTR.

I had a good feeling ever since that music video showed up!! I had already declared 2017 to be the new year of yuri for myself, but maybe it’s gonna be 2018 after all. 😉

I’m hyped for Citrus as well, but this is perfect!
