Urara Meirochou Episode 7: Tests Hex

Girls studying hard.jpg

Tough time studying.

The first segment featured our heroines struggling with a test that seemed to require a lot of memorization. This segment spoke to me in so many ways, so many.

Chiya soothing Nono.jpg

Chiya caressing Nono.

We got lots of cute and funny stuff seeing the girls find ways to make studying for the test easier. Then we got to Nono who told the others about how she sang the tunes of a lullaby whenever she was stressed. It helped calm her down and sometimes fall asleep. Chiya rewarded Nono by caressing her cheek like the harem queen that she is.

Nono the singing urara.

During test day Nono sang her incantation and passed the test, showing off her own unique urara style.

Nina seeking comfort from Saku.jpg

Hold me darling!

Nina saw that her imouto was growin up, saddening her. The bittersweet feeling of one day no longer being able to baby your child, or in Nina’s case her younger sister yet being proud of them slowly becoming strong and independent. At least Nina will always have her wifey.

Koume the aspriring witch’s apprentice.

The next segment had Koume getting the spotlight. Miss Nina’s class that day was about witches and their similarities to urara and Koume was the most pumped. Her friends got her to reveal that she knew a witch and tell them her story.

Marie and Kid Koume 1.jpg

Marie the witch and Kid Koume.

One day at the Yukimi estate a transfer student from France came to visit. Her name was Marie Quispiroucouette. She quickly attached herself to Koume, playing pranks and playfully teasing her.

Koume enjoyed her time with Marie very much. She wanted to brag about how cool Marie’s magic was but her parents only saw her as an ordinary magician. Koume didn’t like that everyone didn’t believe in Marie’s powers and got into a bit of trouble because of it. Marie still liked her regardless.

Marie saying goodbye to Koume.jpgUnfortunately their fun times wouldn’t last. A pandemic had spread and the superstitous blamed Marie. She was sadly used to it. Koume begged to come along with her and become her apprentice. Marie made a deal with her, become the best witch in Japan and then they’ll meet again.

Back in the present Koume understood the reason why Marie gave her such a difficult goal was to discourage her from a life full of potential danger and discrimination but of course it only served to motivate her even more. Good stuff.

  1. Finally some character development for Nono and Koume, since they’ve been the two most missing out on that stuff. I guess singing is easier for some shy people…coughnotmecough
I guess it’s a good thing they had Nono on the test last, or everyone might’ve fallen asleep in the middle of the test of something. Standardized (memory) testing though, even as Urara. The poor things.

Captain Saku sure showed up at just the right moment there…good for her (and Nina) (and their life together).

And Koume got another potential (age-gap) ship beyond Chiya’s harem, maybe, potentially? Or at least has a goal of her own to strive towards.
So western witches are her thing, huh? I guess that explains the whole “broom-riding” bit that’s been in the OP since the start…and why Koume knew of Tarot cards, but not how to use them…

    • Though this episode does make me wonder how the series/this cour of it will end…if the end goal of most of them is to become first-rank Urara, and by Ep7 they haven’t even become ninth-rank Urara…I don’t see them reaching that goal this season unless something drastic happens. Like there’s a sudden timeskip before the last few episodes, or they somehow don’t need to become first-rank anymore, or they skip a lot of ranks somehow, or something. Possibility for season 2 if they don’t reach that point this season?

Hnn… the manga is still ongoing – which in my experience is not the bestest sign for an adapted anime to have a conclusive ending (yet)…
You brought up a point there, that seriously lowered my expectations on the overarching plot… 😐

I wouldn’t worry so much about it. It’s better if they don’t go all ‘conclusive’ if being “conclusive” means rushing things.

      Good segments for both girls.

It could be a potential ship. You never know.

Koume as a witch fits her very well. I think she’d make a better witch than a fortuneteller but as Miss Nina explained they do share similarities so it works out.

Nina: “Catching Saku’s sword strikes barehanded” – That’s gotta be some kind of metaphor for something naughty, right? Right?!
I just now realized, that Nono’s hair style is a perfect blend of Nina’s and Cap’s… (Yeah, that’s me being slow again…)

So, Koume just added an age-gap tag to the show’s description..? I liked Marie, and hope, she’ll show up again.

Fave scene: Daddy Caps coming home for dinner to comfort Mommy Nina over their kid growing up so fast.

..did the preview just prove that Chiya learned how to wear undies? 😛

Nina and Captain Saku are soul mates after all.

There’s potentail for the two to hook up in the near future so I don’t see why not. You never know.

Chiya wearing undies would be mindblowing.

It must be tough for the girls to memorize all that, but I am glad that Nono did it all by her self. She is having more confidence in herself. Still, I am not surprised that Koume wants to become a witch since her appearance somewhat gives it off. Still, it’s nice to see how she is inspired to become one.

I know that feel of having to cram a bunch of knowledge in your head all too, that whole segment explained it perfectly. I like Marie, I hope she will appear again. I wonder how this series will end, or if there will be a season 2.

I can’t help but feel I’m a bit late to the party, even though, here are my 2 cents on today’s episode.

I’m glad that we got some insight on Koume’s backstory this episode, I usually don’t like her sort of character, but my opinion of her is definitely higher than it was when the series started. It seems that they’re trying to further reinforce Saku x Nina, and I’ve no problems with it per se, although Saku’s colleagues probably don’t agree with me. When all is said and done, I have high hopes for the rest of the series (unless they do something irredeemable like separate the characters or otherwise sink any of the ships). Now then, my stew is finally starting to cool off, and I’m incredibly hungry, I’ll be back on monday (hopefully) for the next Nyanko Dropout Jihen.

I guess anyone who has studied for an exam must find the memorizing segment relatable.

Urara Meirochou is more story-focused among Girls Club anime, so I was expecting my favourite Koume will get an interesting backstory someday. So glad her backstory turned out to be heart-warming.
The scene Marie trusted Koume with her hat must be a sign of their eventual reunion, once Koume becomes the Queen of the Witches. Meanwhile Chiya will have become the Queen of the Yuri Harem for sure.
