An episode centered around Kanna. My heart wasn’t ready for it…especially with the below image as a sign of what’s to come.
We joined ouw cute little dragon watching kids going to school and Miss Kobayashi asked if she wanted to go too. Her incredibly bright smile was all she needed to get her point across.
The three went out shopping for the required supplies with Kanna being as lethally adorable as a nyanko, nearly causing the polar ice caps to melt.
At a store where they had to buy mandatory clothing Tohru asked why Kanna had to dress the same as the other children. Miss Kobayashi explained that Japan has a preference for everyone looking the same. Anyone who was different would be ostracized. Tohru rightfully thought it was dumb as it reminded her of how horribly she was treated by the people of her world for being different, essentially a dragon. Kanna was worried that she too would be villified but Miss Kobayashi assured her she had nothing to worry about.
At school Kanna quickly made a strong impression. Tohru was tasked by Miss Kobayashi to make sure she’s alright. As she saw Kanna’s day at school she questioneed the human world’s educational system and outdoor activities such as dodgeball saying it fit humanity’s barbaric nature.
Kanna’s popularity grabbed the attention of a girl who is quite possibly the WORST tsundere I have ever seen…and I mean this as a compliment. She is TERRIBLE at hiding her true feelings. She didn’t even need to use the traditional “It’s not like you turn me on or anything”. Kanna was a bit shocked because it seemed she might be ostracized so she responded to the shiny tsundere’s advances with her secret weapon.
Lowering Riko’s guard with a faint attack.
While walking back home she explained to Tohru that the reason she wanted to go to school was because she wanted to get closer to humans so she could learn how to best get along with them through good times and bad. Very astute for a child.
The second half of the episode was about an incident that started when Riko wanted to show her crush a cool playground before they were almost hurt by older boys. The more reasonable of the group tried bargaining with the girls but Riko’s need to impress Kanna got the two in trouble after she goaded the boys to accept her “winner gets the playground” dodgeball challenge. She of course regretted her decision later but the older dragons were amused by the challenge and agreed to help them.
As expected it was a massacre. Thankfully Lucoa knew how to gently help Riko forget what she had seen.
So Miss Kobayashi has a dragon in love with her and Kanna has a human. How delightful.
