One of my 2017 Winter season picks has premiered and I am here to talk about it. As of this post there are no English subs. Yup. It’s time for the good old Spanish subs again.
The episode started with our leading lady Chiya, a girl who seems to have lived most of her young life in the wild. This would explain her strange of custom of showing her belly while apologizing, which of course resulted in the chick magnet captain of the guards to almost get a nosebleed. So yes. She arrived at the city of Meirochou, a place where certain girls gather to study on how to become professional fortune tellers, or Urara. Also because Chiya was raised in the wild animals really like her and chill with her when possible. She was framed as being the leader of some animal thieves who stole food to give her. When the captain of the guards was called, the above image is the result.
While running Chiya bumped into a yamato nadesico named Kon, who may or may not be a kitsune and Miss Pram (or Pu-chan,) the heir to a wealthy family. All three girls were sent letters of invitation to become professional Urara. Chiya however, had no idea what an Urara was for she had a different reason for coming to Meirochou, she was searching for her mother. The reason she waited so long was because she was told to wait until she turned 15 because that was the age where girls would be called upon to become fortune teller trainees.
Before the captain banished all three from Meirochou the appointed master of the three, Nina, offered to commit seppuku to apologize for them. Obviously the captain reconsidered. After that we were introduced to the fourth member of the group, Nina’s imouto Nono, the super shy girl behind Nina.
After that several kinds of fortune telling techniques were shown such as tea leaves, tarot cards and Nono’s creepy doll that she uses to convey her hidden feelings disguised as the doll’s. The most important technique shown in the episode was Kon’s “Kokkuri-san” method which is kind of “Japanese Ouija”. When Kon tried to read Chiya’s fortune there was only darkness. I wonder what it could mean?
Chiya wanted to make sure if Kon was a kitsune by seeing if she had a tail.
Last but not least we got to meet the captain’s loyal one-sided girlfriends, Oshima and Shiozawa. Will the two end up falling in love with each other or continue trying as hard as they can to make the captain notice their love for her?
In any case I really enjoyed the first episode. The fortune telling stuff is cool, the girls will definitely have some cool stories to tell and there is plenty of yuri to work with.
