Mahou Tsukai PreCure 22+23: History Is Made

Last time the first arc came to a pretty awesome close. Haa had disappeared after those events. What will happen next?

Mystery caller.jpg

Gee. I wonder who this could be…

Even before they gave away his identity it would have been obvious. Oh and the Headmaster and the crystal ball were back to their younger selves and not Dumbledore and his trusty crystal granny. What we got from this conversation was that the guy was investigating something and he too was at the Muggle World.

Familiar back

Familiar hair.

She was near…

Sad Mofurun.jpg

They all miss Haa.

The two mamas and big sister all missed their adorable pink puffball. Riko even considered going back to the Magic Academy to study hard to become powerful enough to locate the Emerald Linkle Stone and Haa.

Evil genie.jpg

New villain.

Looks like the new big bad will be a troublemaker genie.

Revenge.jpg

My how you’ve changed Gecko Guy.

He revived Gecko Guy with a slightly new form from the tail that was ripped off before he offered all his life energy to power up Dokurokushii. Now he wants revenge for his fallen master.

Creepy Crab.jpg

Creepy Rocket Crab Insect Yokubar.

Whoa. Gecko Guy’s not fooling around.

Power of the stache.jpg

Mofurun used the power of the stache to motivate the Cures. Have I ever mentioned how awesome Mofurun is? I think I have once or twice…

The Cures tried to fight the buffed up Yokubar but its overwhelming power and the pain of their daughter not being there made them sad. Mofurun motivated them to fighto!

Haa with the Emerald Linkle Stone.jpg

It’s time.

Cure Felice.jpg

Cure Felice pose.

The hype for Cure Felice, aka Mega Haa was real baby! Eat your heart out Cure Ace! Then again she does remind me of Cure Flower.

Flower Echo Wand.jpg

Floral Echo Wand.

Haa is legend ladies and gentlemen. HAA. IS. LEGEND! All I can say about her finishing move, Emerald Reincarnation is, “THE POWER OF NATURE COMPELS YOU YOKUBAR!”

Welcome back Haa!.jpg

Still adorable in her final form.

On to episode 23.

Sea of pink flowers.jpg

Haa couldn’t remember how she came to the Muggle World but could vaguely recall a “sea of pink flowers”. Haa wanted to hang out with her moms and sister but Riko was worried that after reporting to the Headmaster they’d be split up. The mamas didn’t want that so for the time being they hoped for the best.

Evil genie's lamp.jpg

Evil genie’s lamp.

The mystery of who released the genie from his lamp had begun.

Haa can't fly anymore.jpg

Haa can’t fly anymore.

Haa in her human form can’t fly anymore nor can she fit through small gaps.

Haa's wand

At least she has her own magic wand.

Haa's own broom.jpg

Haa got her own broom too.

Like past Cures with special kits (aka special merch to sell to little girls and fanboys), Haa’s has her own unique advantages such as drawing what she wants and it magically becoming real.

Rabu's shadow silhouette.jpg

The evil genie introduced himself to Gecko Guy as Rabu and told him to keep on causing trouble until further instructions.

Dokurokushii puppet.jpg

I commend Gecko Guy on his undying loyalty.

No effect.jpg

No effect.

Haa tried going Mega but couldn’t for some reason. Her mamas went Topaz but their attacks had no effect on the Yokubar.

Haa's signature pose.jpg

This has become Haa’s signature badass pose.

Haa then remembered why she became a PreCure, to protect her moms and sister (and the world of course). She finally has the power to support the people who protected her when she was not so strong. You all know what that means…

The mamas held their own while their baby used the power of nature to compel the Yokubar.

Kotoha Hanami

My name is Kotoha Hanami.

You’ll always be Haa to me Kotoha.

I’m so happy. I’m not 100% sure but this is the first time in Pretty Cure history that not only has an infant supporting character done much more than be an adorable “Assist Character” during battles but had become a Power Ranger. I don’t think it’s a secret to anyone that Haa is my favorite infant character in the franchise. That title used to belong to Potpurri while Chiffon is now in third.

The Evolution of Haa.jpg

This is awesome!

I look forward to seeing what will happen after Gecko Guy runs out of Dokurokushii bones and Rabu makes his next move. Also the waiting game for when the veteran Cures get a power boost. This is a PreCure tradition.

Cure Felice’s introduction was well worth the wait. Haa is great, without a doubt, but it’s worth acknowledging she turned out that way due to the influence of Mirai, Riko and Mofurun.
Hopefully it won’t take too long for Miracle and Magical to get something that brings their power levels up to par with Felice.
Katsuki’s appearance in the new opening credits also amuses me.

      Oh yes. Cure Felice FTW!
But of course. Her moms and sister helped guide the pink bundle of puff to greatness.

Most likely there will be an episode where they notice the huge gap and do their best to find some ancient power boost or something like that. It’s happened before.

I’m hoping something will happen between Haa and Katsuki.

I will always call her Haa-Chan speaking of her human name i think even i can figure out that it’s supposed to mean “Words of the Sea of Flowers” or something like that honestly it’s just a massive guess on my part.

I do have to admit her attack being called Emerald Reincarnation is a bit odd because of what reincarnation is all about and she’s actually destroying the enemy so it’s actually ironic

Well, as per usual, they aren’t really “destroying” the enemies, but purifying them. I don’t think it really ever gets explained except in the really old Precure (but i”m not sure that even does), but it’s well implied with how the enemies don’t just get vaporized.

Haa’s easier to remember for now but I’m sure the name Kotoha will be ingrained in our heads in due time.

As cirno9fan said it makes sense. Keep in mind that the Yokubar are two objects infused with dark magic. Most of the time the monsters of the week the Cures go up against aren’t “killed” per se but purified so Felice’s finisher looks more like it’s purifying the darkness than killing the Yokubar. The same goes for her mamas’ finishers despite how gloriously destructive they appear.

This family is like our yuri legendary Takamachi family. Both mothers had raised their daughter well. Oh, god the gayness is kept on rising – Mirai and Riko are destined to be marriage couple – they even address each other “family” instead of “friends”….

Haa-chan’s back! I liked the fact they made Haa try to fly or get stuck, showing that Haa-chan herself is not used to the result of extreme growth spurt.
The new name for Haa-chan comes from ‘words’ as the headmaster said, so I guess the second half will be Haa-chan’s mental growth story through communications with MiraRiko, Mofurun and others.
btw that new bad guy somehow reminded me of Majin Boo.

  6. Kotoha is so cute! Mirai, Riko, Kotoha, and Mofurun could become the best yuri family in the history. Speaking of Mofurun, one of the movie’s rumors confirms that Mofurun is indeed a girl and she even has her own Cure form. Unfortunately, her Cure form is said to be movie-exclusive. Let us hope that we will see that in the anime.
